They say that in professional sports, the best ability is availability. Unfortunately, though, for the Dallas Wings’ fans, this statement can’t be true for most of their roster. The Dallas Wings’ season has been riddled with injuries and inconsistent play. This trend of injuries started early on in the season when the Dallas Wings lost Tyasha Harris for the rest of the season, owing to a knee injury. Since then, it has been a cycle of players missing games due to injuries. Maddy Siegrist, DiJonai Carrington, and Paige Bueckers all have missed a considerable amount of time due to various injuries.

With important players missing games, the already tough challenge set for the Dallas Wings was virtually impossible to achieve. With Paige Bueckers’ entry into the WNBA, the expectation was for her to mirror Caitlin Clark’s rookie campaign and lead the Wings to the playoffs. While individually, her year has been just like Caitlin’s (if not better), the team has struggled immensely. One of the silver linings of this season was the consistent play of Arike Ogunbowale.

Throughout all these injuries, one player who had remained available was Arike Ogunbowale. So far this season, she has appeared in 29 out of 32 games and has been a trusted second punch for Paige Bueckers. However, it seems like the injury bug has caught on to her as well. According to recent reports, Arike Ogunbowale is set to miss the game against the Indiana Fever with a knee injury.

Despite being one of the most consistent players on the roster, Ogunbowale was also dealing with a thumb and knee injury. Due to her knee injury, she missed 3 games. And now, the knee injury seems to have caught up to her to the point where she is unable to suit up. Although right now there are no updates regarding the seriousness of the injury. The Dallas Wings will surely take it easy and give her all the time to recover. With the Dallas Wings virtually out of the playoff race, it makes no sense to try and force her.

Paige Bueckers Remains Odds-on Favourite to with ROTY Despite Sonia Citron’s Recent Surge

Paige Bueckers has had an eventful rookie year. The moment her name was called as the first overall pick, she was considered a lock for the 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year. In fact, before the season started, BETMGM gave -375 odds of her winning the award. As time went on, the case for Paige Bueckers winning the award has only gotten stronger.

Throughout her rookie season, Paige Bueckers has broken many records. In the 25 games she has appeared in till now, she has always managed to score in double digits. She broke Caitlin Clark’s record and became the fastest player to score 250 career points. However, even after all these records, some have brought up another name for the ROTY award.

What’s your perspective on:

Can the Dallas Wings overcome their injury woes, or is this season a lost cause?

Have an interesting take?

This player in question, Washington Mystics’ rookie guard, Sonia Citron. To her credit, Sonia has had a rookie season to be proud of. She has recorded 14.8 points per game until now. In a recent surge, she has had 8 consecutive double-digit games, including her career-high of 28 points against the Chicago Sky. She has also been available more often than Paige Bueckers, with 31 games played compared to Bueckers’ 25.

Despite this, Paige Bueckers has remained the clear favorite for the Rookie of the Year award. As of now, BETMGM is providing -5000 odds on her winning. Barring injuries, Paige Bueckers should be the clear winner of this award. She also has the support of one of her fellow players, Sophie Cunningham.

Will Paige Bueckers seal the deal and win this coveted award, or will there be a surprise when the results are announced? Guess we’ll have to wait until the announcements are made.
