It was a record-breaking night in Indianapolis. The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game may have missed Caitlin Clark on the court, but the stars who did suit up made sure it was one to remember. Team Napheesa Collier shattered the All-Star scoring record, taking down Team Caitlin Clark 151-131! And if you thought Paige Bueckers was just a quiet spectator while Phee and Skylar Diggins took over? You were wrong!
The 2025 WNBA All-Star Game couldn’t have started with a bigger bang! The first bucket of the night? A 4-pointer, and of course, it came from Paige Bueckers. She set the tone early by draining the very first shot of the night from deep. Paige would go on to set a record of her own!
According to Polymarket Hoops, she now holds the record for the most assists without a turnover by a rookie in NBA/WNBA All-Star Game history. Expected from the Rookie of the Year contender! But instead of being thrilled about it, her coach had one blunt take to give.

Well, in a game that featured four UConn players–including Paige Bueckers, Gabby Williams, and Breanna Stewart–it was Napheesa Collier who stole the show. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year recorded 36 points and 9 rebounds in just 19 minutes of play. In contrast, Bueckers had only 6 points and 8 assists.
So, of course, Auriemma had to throw a little jab her way! Remember that iconic moment earlier this year when UConn clinched the championship? Just seconds before the final buzzer, Bueckers and her coach shared an emotional embrace. When asked about it later, she said, “He told me he loves me, I told him I hated him, but no, I love that man more than words can describe.”
What’s your perspective on:
Is Geno Auriemma's 'awful' comment on Paige's record-breaking game just classic coach humor?
Have an interesting take?
This love-hate relationship between the two is exactly what makes their bond so unique. Bueckers has made it clear time and again that Auriemma’s tough love was the reason she chose UConn in the first place. He doesn’t sugarcoat things, and he tells you exactly where you’re going wrong, and he’s not afraid to do it. But that’s not all!
At one point, he even called Paige “delusional” because she would often ignore what he had to say. But that’s just who they are. Their playful banter and deep respect for one another continue to show what a true coach-player relationship should look like.
Speaking of relationships, did you know who Paige is dating? By now, it really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone!

Over the years, the chemistry between Fudd and Bueckers has been a delight to watch. So it’s no surprise to see them together or to watch Geno playfully tease her about her All-Star game performance for that matter. All of this just goes to show how close-knit the UConn team really was!
