There’s been plenty of chatter about whether the Mystics rookie duo of Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen deserve to be ahead of Paige Bueckers in the Rookie of the Year race. While those two are undoubtedly top players, there is a reason why it was the Lady Husky who went number 1 in the W draft. Another Paige in Bueckers’ WNBA history has officially been written.

Since coming back from the concussion protocol, the Dallas Wings guard has been in phenomenal form. She has 111 points in her last 5 games since coming back. That’s 22.2 points a game. While the wins haven’t consistently followed, Bueckers continues to rewrite the record books every time she steps on the court.

According to Polymarket Hoops on X, Paige Bueckers just shattered a 19-year-old record by becoming the fastest rookie to hit 200 career points since 2006. With that, she’s now the 5th fastest player in WNBA history to reach the milestone. That’s some GOAT stuff!

But that wasn’t the only record she broke tonight. Let’s take a look at some of the records that she made tonight.

  • She became the fastest player to reach 20 career steals since 2012.
  • She became the 2nd fastest guard in WNBA history to reach 10 career blocks.
  • She became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 200+ points,  50+ rebounds, and 50+ assists.

It’s tough to see a player do everything right and still end up on the losing side. That has been the story for Paige this season. She dropped her 3rd consecutive 20-point game against the Mystics, scoring 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists. And that wasn’t all! She even hit the game-tying three to send it to overtime. But in the end, it just wasn’t enough. The Mystics won the game 91-88.

Injuries are costing Paige Bueckers and co hard

The Wings just can’t catch a break. Tyasha Harris and Maddy Siegrist were already out. And now, DiJonai Carrington has joined the list with a rib injury. That’s a major blow for Coach Koclanes. Between the three, the Wings are missing 25.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. Considering the fact that they never had much quality depth to begin with–this is huge!

There were just the injuries, how can we forget the EuroBasket? The Wings lost two key players to the EuroBasket as well. Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiselsoder left the side to represent their national side. That’s 5 players lost. Not many teams can compete with such loss.

The Wings tried to respond quickly. They added Li Yueru via trade and got Kalia Charles and Haley Jones on hardship contracts. Jones didn’t even see the floor against the Mystics. Instead, Coach Koclanes decided to use just 8 players against the Mystics.

These are some tough times for Paige Bueckers and the Wings. While the rookie continues to shine, the injury issues are preventing the Wings from reaching their full potential. Do you see them turning this season around and reach the playoffs? Let us know in the comments!
