This year’s Rookie of the Year race was a contest between David and Goliath. With Paige Bueckers heavily favored for the awards even before she had stepped on a WNBA court, Sonia Citron played her role well until the end. But in this battle between David and Goliath, there were no surprises as Paige Bueckers won the ROTY with 70 out of 72 votes in her favor. Naturally, when you win such a prestigious award, applause and praise are sure to come from all around the world. And in the case of Paige Bueckers, the latest one to shower praise on her is none other than Dallas Wings’ GM, Curt Miller.

Although some might say that Curt Miller didn’t manage to build a roster strong enough to help Paige Bueckers make a big payoff run, he is adamant that the roster is moving in the right direction. While the fans may argue against it, Paige Bueckers’ ROTY award and the fact that Dallas can add a big piece next summer do give some hope. To congratulate Paige Bueckers for her award, Curt Miller reposted the announcement with his own ultimate praise.
He reposted with the caption, “Incredible player… better person. This is just the beginning. Congratulations Paige!”

His message of Paige Bueckers being an even better person than a player has plenty of evidence to support. Just recently, when it was announced that Paige Bueckers had won the AP Rookie of the Year, she did not celebrate the award with a lavish and over-the-top celebration. Rather, she decided to recognize her support staff team and gifted them all her Player Exclusive Nikes. If that’s not enough to sway someone’s opinions, perhaps looking at how she has used her platform to make sure that the brands sponsoring her are also either doing some good for the community or include some of her teammates who are not very popular.

While her play on the court is certainly more than enough to make her one of the most adored players for the fans, her off-court gestures like this are the ones that set her apart from the competition. Ever so often, there are players in the league that are not the absolute best in terms of performance but, are so engaged with their community that they become fan favorites. This year, not only was Paige Bueckers one of the best players on the court, but her actions and now her GM’s message are further evidence of how much she has bought into the Dallas Wings.
But while Paige Bueckers is locked in, this should not ease the pressure on the front office. If they want to avoid a situation like the Chicago Sky are dealing with right now, they need to put together a competitive roster and they need to do it quickly.
What Should be the Offseason Goals for the Dallas Wings?
After the way their season ended, the Dallas Wings fans, players, and the entire organization were left disappointed. After witnessing the impact Caitlin Clark had on the Indiana Fever during her rookie season, most of the Dallas were hoping to see Paige Bueckers do a similar thing. However, despite all her efforts, the Wings ended the season with the most losses in a single season in the league’s history. If we had to show a single game to give the recap of the Dallas Wings’ season, the August 20 game against the Los Angeles Sparks should give the full picture.

Should the Dallas Wings trade their lottery pick for Angel Reese to create a dynamic duo with Paige?
Have an interesting take?
Despite a historic 44-point performance from PB, the Wings still lost the game. To avoid the same happening in the 2026 WNBA season, GM Curt Miller needs to make some hard choices. The first of these hard choices is to decide what to do with their 2026 lottery pick. Though they are in a great position to win the lottery two times in a row, the question must be asked: Is there a clear first overall pick in this draft class? Till now, most mock drafts have Lauren Betts or Awa Fam as the top picks.

On paper, both of them should work with Paige Bueckers. But there is a world where you can get a sure-shot star next to Paige. With all the drama surrounding Angel Reese, the Dallas Wings can package next year’s draft pick and trade for Angel Reese. With this trade, the Wings can have a great one-two punch in the league, while also not changing the franchise’s timeline.

Another tough choice that Curt Miller needs to make is about the coaching. It is an open secret that Curt Miller and Chris Koclanes have a close relationship, and that relationship played a big part in him landing the Dallas coaching job. Now, with the widespread concerns about his coaching and his command in the locker room. It falls on Curt Miller’s shoulders to decide whether to continue with Chris or does the team needs a new voice.
When you have a generational talent like Paige Bueckers in your ranks, it is important to give them a roster capable of competing every year. The Wings did not have that last year. Now, with just a few months till her second year begins, it will be interesting to see the moves Dallas Wings make in the offseason.
