An unforeseen situation has brought Aliyah Boston’s 2026 Unrivaled season to an end. The Phantom BC has lost another player through the same injury this season. This unexpected setback may also jeopardize Boston’s plans in March ahead of the WNBA calendar. Chloe Peterson of IndyStar gave an update on her situation.

“Aliyah Boston, who left Phantom BC’s last regular season game with an injury, has been ruled out for the rest of the Unrivaled season due to a right lower extremity injury,” Peterson wrote on X. “Unrivaled only has three days of play left, and did not specify the seriousness of the injury.”

The timing couldn’t have been any worse. Boston was doing extremely well for Phantom and led the competition with 2.1 blocks per game. She averaged 18.9 points, shot 55% from the field and 81% from the free-throw line, and ranked among the top rebounders, helping the team finish No. 1 and earn a first-round bye.

The three-time WNBA All-Star starter was making quite an impact on defense, as Phantom was really rattling the opposition’s attack, allowing fewer than 68 points per game while scoring 73.4 points per game, which just shows how stingy they have been.

Guard Dana Evans, who played just one game earlier this Unrivaled season, was ruled out with a left lower extremity injury.

Fans cannot help but worry about Aliyah Boston’s busy schedule after Unrivaled

Well, it didn’t take long for the Aliyah Boston news to spread, and the fans couldn’t help but share their views.

“My center better not be seriously injured!” said a fan.

With their first WNBA game scheduled for May 9 against the Dallas Wings, this injury will really cost the Indiana Fever if Boston cannot return to full health soon. The forward has been an instrumental figure in the paint, and her partnership with Caitlin Clark is something fans look forward to. Averaging 15 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, Boston was the third-highest scorer after Kelsey Mitchell and Clark last season.

“Yeah, stay out. You had a great season in unrivaled, but now it’s time to get right for the season. Heal up aliyah us fever fans need you,” said another fan, reiterating the same thought.

This news will indeed come as a shock to the Fever and its fanbase because Boston has been available for every regular-season game over the last three years. In fact, the WNBA team had congratulated its forward for her offseason achievement just hours before her injury news dropped.

While Clark is no doubt the face of the organization, Boston is the unsung hero who gets the job done without much limelight. She has a steady foundation, complemented by her ability to secure the rim. Her 8.2 rebounds per game last season ranked her 6th in the league, while her 0.9 blocks per game ranked her within the league’s top 15.

One commenter, however, is seeing a much bigger picture amidst all of this.

The WNBA had the prioritization rule under its older 2020 CBA. The rule applies to players with more than 2 years of WNBA experience, who must report to their team by a date commonly agreed upon. If they do not join their WNBA teams by May 1 or the start of training camp, whichever is later, they will be suspended for the entire year.

The rule was primarily implemented to curb offseason participation in rival leagues. However, the players argued that they needed the extra income to supplement their WNBA wages and make a living, which is why the WNBPA and WNBA have been negotiating the new CBA for months.

After the Unrivaled season (the championship game set for 9:30 p.m. ET Wednesday), Boston was expected to join Team USA for the March training camp, but that now seems uncertain under the current circumstances.
