The legal situation surrounding Chicago Sky star Rickea Jackson and Atlanta Falcons linebacker James Pearce Jr. has taken another surprising turn, which has sparked concerns for Jackson all over again.

Pearce was arrested months ago after a disturbing Miami-Dade County incident involving Jackson. Now, according to reporter Andy Slater, the Falcons linebacker has officially entered a felony pretrial diversion program in Florida.

But what has left many fans surprised is that Jackson “voluntarily dropped her attempt at a permanent restraining order against the Falcons star.” While Pearce is still legally required to stay away from Jackson for the next 12 months, this update has sparked reactions across social media, including one from Emmy-nominated sportscaster Chris Williamson.

“We pray for Rickea’s safety and well-being 🙏🏾🙏🏾,” Williamson wrote on X.

His reaction quickly resonated with many fans because people still remember just how serious the allegations surrounding this case were when the story first broke out.

Back in February, Miami-Dade County police responded to what was initially a domestic disturbance involving Rickea Jackson and Pearce. But the situation escalated quickly and eventually turned into a police pursuit. As a result, authorities later accused Pearce of several felony charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated stalking, fleeing and eluding police, and battery on a law enforcement officer.

According to police reports, Pearce followed Jackson in his vehicle, repeatedly attempting to make contact despite being told to stop, and he continued pursuing her as she tried to leave the area for safety. The reports also alleged that Pearce rammed Jackson’s vehicle during the confrontation, which prompted her to drive toward a police station. But the pursuit ended only after Pearce crashed his SUV and attempted to flee on foot before the police took him into custody.

Since then, day-by-day more details around this case emerged and the allegations kept on becoming more alarming.

As per ESPN, Jackson made at least seven separate 911 calls in the weeks leading up to Pearce’s arrest. During those calls, she repeatedly expressed concerns about harassment, stalking, and feeling unsafe at her residence in Doral.

Then later, Jackson also alleged that Pearce repeatedly followed her and even offered large amounts of money (up to $200,000) to keep the relationship going shortly before the February incident took place.

Now, months later, Pearce has entered Florida’s felony pretrial diversion program after completing the intake and verification process. Court records show that prosecutors expanded the agreement from an initial six-month proposal to a full 12-month program.

If Pearce successfully completes all court-ordered conditions during that time, Florida authorities will dismiss all current charges tied to the case.

But the fallout from this case may still impact Pearce’s NFL future moving forward.

James Pearce Jr.’s NFL Future Still Clouded by Rickea Jackson Situation

The Falcons selected Pearce as the No. 26 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. And in his rookie year he finished third in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting with 10.5 sacks.

But now, Pearce must complete a full 12-month diversion program and comply with every court-ordered condition before Florida authorities dismiss the charges. And that timeline alone could continue keeping his NFL future under heavy scrutiny.

When reports first revealed that prosecutors were considering only a six-month diversion agreement, many fans immediately pushed back online because of the seriousness of the allegations surrounding the case. So, Florida authorities have now expanded that proposal into a full one-year program before Pearce can potentially clear his record completely.

Meanwhile, the NFL could still continue monitoring the situation separately under the league’s personal conduct policy, regardless of how the legal process ultimately unfolds.

That means even if Pearce ultimately clears his record, his future in the NFL still remains uncertain, especially considering how alarming many of the allegations became once more details from the investigation surfaced publicly.
