Amoore blew past the Liberty defenders just last month in the final seconds to secure a one-point win for Kentucky in a game that had Amoore written all over it. She scored 34 points, including three clutch free throws in the final 10 seconds to ensure that they don’t blow a 14-point lead against a side that was inferior on paper. After being a first round pick for the Washington Mystics she was expect to be the ‘conductor’ for the WNBA side this season
Unfortunately, she suffered a right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during a training session and is likely out for the season. The team did not specifically say she tore the ligament so there is still hope that it could be better than what we suspect. An ACL injury to a sportsperson is scarier than anything. I am sure she would rather have all her money burnt rather than have an ACL injury. Yes, it is that big of a deal.
To come back from a torn ACL typically requires 8-12 months for professional athletes. If the injury is something less than a tear, a reduced recovery timeline is possible. Still, it would likely be longer than 4 months, so Amoore is still missing the majority of the season. The important part is that she should remain the same player as she was post-injury. Moore is a very unique player who relies on her athleticism and instinct to score and make those passes that seem impossible. Let’s see how the fans reacted to the injury news:

Fans devastated at Georgia Amoore injury news
“You can have my ACL” was the first reaction of any hardcore Washington Mystics fan as the first-round draft pick suffered a major ACL tear, which might leave her out for the entire season. Fans are understandably devastated as they were looking forward to Amoore balling out in the WNBA just like in college. A fierce talent who once danced with the ball, her spirit lighting up the Washington team’s dreams. But in a heart-sinking moment, a torn ACL stole her rhythm, leaving teammates and fans holding their breath. Yet, in this tender chapter, the WNBA family wraps her in a warm embrace—prayers, love, and quiet hopes whispered across arenas.

Prayers out to Georgia Amoore 🤍 I know this was not how she expected training camp to start, but I’m wishing her a safe recovery mentally and physically. pic.twitter.com/WiFngwiuYY— belle me ᰔᩚ (@belleameskyden) April 30, 2025
The fans were personally distressed for her as one said, “Prayers to Georgia Amoore, man. I’m so so sick for her.” It’s natural to feel the same pain your favorite athlete feels. Another fan mentioned a study in which women have more ACL injuries, saying, “The rate women’s athletes suffer ACL injuries is such a sad thing to research, all because of genetics shit ain’t fair, man.” Yes, what she is saying is true, as there are multiple studies that say that women are more prone to ACL injuries. Women typically have wider hips, which can alter the mechanics of the knee joint and increase the stress on the ACL.

Georgia Amoore's injury—can the Mystics still shine without their star rookie this season?
Have an interesting take?
And yes, it does seem unfair, and women should take more care but you want to leave your all every time you step on the court, which results in these injuries happening in a bunch. Another fan wished that everyone could just be healthy all the time, saying, “I just wish everyone could be healthy forever.” It’s natural to feel like this; people feel the same about death but it’s just wishful thinking. There were many others who wished for a quick recovery for the youngster and many posted sad GIFs implying that this was the worst news they had gotten all day.
