The 2024 Paris Olympics saw both the men’s and women’s teams bring home basketball gold, but Bam Adebayo returned with more than just a medal. He returned with A’ja Wilson. They may have been quietly dating before, but it was in the “City of Love” where fans finally caught on, and the NBA/WNBA world had a new power couple to adore. Since then, Bam and A’ja have continued to win hearts with their off-court chemistry, and their recent act of kindness is taking the internet by storm.

A’ja has long been known for her work off the court. In 2019, she launched the A’ja Wilson Foundation, which focuses on anti-bullying efforts and raising awareness about dyslexia, a cause deeply personal to her. She’s also an active member of the WNBA Social Justice Council, using her platform to push for real change in communities that need it most.

Bam, on the other hand, has been pouring into his community through the BBB (Bam, Books & Brotherhood) Foundation, which supports single-parent families and under-resourced youth. His programs focus on education, community enrichment, and mental health.

Key initiatives of the BBB Foundation include providing essential resources to creating safe spaces for kids to grow. According to the BBB website, the foundation has already:

  • Provided meals, presents, and assistance to 56,000+ families during the holiday season
  • Given back-to-school necessities to 2,350+ students across South Florida and North Carolina
  • Invited more than 800 at-risk youth athletes to Bam’s annual Summer Basketball Camp

And this week, we saw another meaningful glimpse of that work in action.

After the Miami Heat picked up their 12th win of the season against the Dallas Mavericks, A’ja Wilson, Bam Adebayo, and Heat guard Tyler Herro hit the streets of Liberty City — a predominantly African American neighborhood in Miami — and spent their evening handing out Thanksgiving meals to local families.

This act of philanthropy has earned the power couple plenty of praise across social media. Let’s take a look at how fans are reacting.

Fans Praise Bam Adebayo and A’ja Wilson for Feeding the Community

Fans absolutely loved seeing A’ja Wilson out there helping Bam with his charity work. One fan even wrote, “A’ja really a part of the Heat 🥹.” And honestly, when you’re showing up for a community you’re not even technically part of, people notice. On top of that, how many power couples do we ever see show up for their communities the way these two do? Another fan echoed the same feeling, writing, “This is so incredible to witness. Tyler, Bam, and A’ja teaming up and making an impact in the community for those in need. Nothing but love for y’all. Happy holidays.”

Bam and A’ja earned every bit of praise they got.

“Looks like I’m an Aces fan now. A’ja really part of the Heat family,” another Heat fan joked, officially pledging their support to the Las Vegas Aces. And they might end up happier that way. The Aces have won three championships in the last four years, while the Heat are still chasing their first title since LeBron left. The Heat has come close a few times during the Jimmy Butler era, but Coach Spo is still searching for his third ring.

To add even more misery for Heat fans, one person joked, “Aja can hit a freethrow may need to sign her.” And the numbers back the joke. Miami ranks 17th in the league in free-throw percentage, shooting just 78.4% from the line. Bam has improved his FT shooting from last season, but the team as a whole still struggles. A’ja Wilson, on the other hand, knocked down 85.5% of her free throws last season and has a career mark of 82.1%. Talk about taking a dig at your own team!

Seeing the chemistry between the two, one fan even demanded that Miami get its own W franchise again. “Miami needs a WNBA team again 😭,” the fan wrote. For those who don’t know, Miami actually did have a WNBA team once named the Miami Sol. They were the sister franchise of the Heat and played in the league from 2000 to 2002.

They played their games at the same American Airlines Arena that Bam Adebayo lights up on game days, although it’s now known as the Kaseya Center. Legends like Sandy Brondello, Debbie Black, and Elena Baranova suited up for the Sol, and the team was coached by Ron Rothstein, the iconic coach who won three NBA championships during his coaching career.

Of course, with all the expansion happening in the W right now, the idea of bringing a Miami-based franchise back isn’t far-fetched at all. But so far, there haven’t been any official discussions about it at the league level. But it’s interesting to note that Miami was actually named the most popular “ideal” destination for a future WNBA expansion team in a recent player poll shared by The Athletic’s Ben Pickman and Sabreena Merchant.

So maybe in the future, 5–6 years down the line, we could see a scenario where A’ja Wilson and Bam Adebayo are both playing in Miami, but for now, that dream looks unlikely.
