A year after apparently breaking up amicably, NaLyssa Smith and DiJonai Carrington have entered a very public altercation. Chicago Sky guard Carrington stunned fans after publicly accusing her ex-girlfriend, Las Vegas Aces forward Smith, of cheating with multiple WNBA players.

Carrington named well-known, high-profile players, including three-time First-team All-ACC point guard Deja Kelly and WNBA Champion and Atlanta Dream guard Aaliyah Nye, in a viral social media post. Now, Smith has finally responded, calling out the decision to air out their past relationship publicly.
“Whether she cheated on me and I cheated on her, why are we bringing that to the internet a year later when nobody did anything to anybody?” Smith said on a livestream, a clip of which was shared on X by a fan account. “Whether she cheated on me or I cheated on her, that has nothing to do with anybody. Like what? That don’t even make sense. Then to bring it to the internet a year later is crazy. Just for fun? That’s ridiculous. Especially when you’re in a happy, healthy relationship. I would never in my life do that to nobody if I was in a happy, healthy relationship.”
DiJonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith‘s relationship first became publicly known during the 2020 college season and continued into their professional careers. The two played together on the Dallas Wings, but that partnership lasted only 18 games before Smith was traded to Las Vegas in June 2025.
An official split between the couple then followed in December, with Carrington publicly announcing on December 18, 2025, that the relationship was “permanently closed.”
Carrington had described the split as being on “good terms,” explaining that the two had simply “grown in different directions,” making the accusations even more surprising. It appears the separation was considerably messier beneath the surface.
As Smith pointed out, the timing carries its own contradictions. Carrington has been rumored to be in a relationship with Las Vegas Aces guard Jackie Young. It is surprising for her to reveal a breakup that happened a year ago.
Meanwhile, both Kelly and Nye have remained silent on the matter. And where the drama goes from here remains entirely to be seen.

DiJonai Carrington is yet to play a game for the Chicago Sky this season. The veteran guard remained on the sidelines throughout the first half of the 2026 WNBA campaign as she continues recovering from offseason foot surgery. However, she is now on track to return to the court and could likely make her Sky debut against the team that drafted her, the Connecticut Sun, following the All-Star break.
Interestingly, after that game, the Las Vegas Aces are next in line to face the Chicago Sky on August 1. If Carrington suits up for that matchup, she would share the court with her ex-girlfriend, NaLyssa Smith. Given the recent off-court controversy surrounding the pair, it would undoubtedly add another layer of tension to the game.
Another game that will carry the same controversial pressure comes immediately after that. Following their meeting with the Sky, the Aces will take on the Atlanta Dream on August 3, meaning Smith would also be on the floor against Aaliyah Nye, another player Carrington publicly named in her recent allegations.
With the number of players being called out publicly, the Carrington-Smith fallout could have much larger implications, on and off court, than previously imagined.
