“Just to play hard as hell these last nine games. Give it our all, that’s all we’ve got.” Angel Reese’s bold declaration came right after Chicago’s playoff hopes were officially buried. They had nine games left in the regular season, and fans thought Chicago would be a different monster now, as they had been liberated from pressure. But on the ground, nothing changed. Out of the four games they’ve played since, Chicago hasn’t won a single one.

The latest stumble? A rough night against the Seattle Storm. Coming in on a three-game skid, the Sky had only one modest target left: to somehow scrape double-digit wins before the season closed. Instead, by the final buzzer, it was the same old story. Another painful addition to the loss column. To make matters worse, even their brightest star went through a rough patch during the game.
This lapse was caught on by Seattle Broadcaster Dick Fain, who didn’t skip a beat roasting Chi-town Barbie’s erroneous play. “Angel Reese loves those missed shots, those offensive board second opportunities. And if Chicago’s gonna beat you, that’s how they are going to do it. They’re going to put it up, they gonna miss, they’re going to put it up again, they might miss again, but eventually, they’re going to get a bucket,” he said during the game.

Angel Reese may have walked away with another double-double, scoring 20 points and getting 10 boards. But this was one of those nights she’ll want to erase from memory. Right from the opening tip, Reese was handling the ball more than usual, almost stepping into a point-forward role. But Seattle wasn’t having it. The Storm’s defense swarmed her, forcing six turnovers, the highest on her team, and setting the tone for what would be a long game.

The rest of the Sky didn’t do much better. Chicago coughed the ball up 19 times compared to Seattle’s 13, and the Storm also racked up more steals. What makes the loss sting even more is that the Sky actually shot better from the field: 44.3 percent to Seattle’s 41.5. But the careless turnovers and sloppy execution flipped the game out of their reach. Then came the free-throw disaster. Chicago earned 25 free throws but only managed to cash in on 14 of them. Seattle? Ice cold, a perfect 18-of-18.
Add in the Sky’s complete collapse from deep, and it was game over before it even started. Nine players hit the court for Chicago, yet only three even dared to pull the trigger from beyond the arc. The result? A brutal 1-of-10 showing, with the lone make coming from Rachel Banham. The Sky never led once in Saturday’s matchup, and every missed opportunity piled up until the final whistle. But despite this forgetful outing, one WNBA legend has come to rescue the Chi-town Barbie.
Angel Reese gets a shoutout from a WNBA legend
To give her credit, Reese has faced her fair share of criticism. But her growth has been clear. She has gone up in points and assists since last year. Her rebound game? phenomenal. She recently became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 800 career rebounds. Showing up in the face of adversity and giving her all, despite failing sometimes, has earned her the praise of Cynthia Cooper.

“I need to give a shoutout to Angel Reese. Angel Reese is just a workaholic. She just gets down to business, right? A lot of stuff has been thrown her way. She keeps her circle tight, and she stays focused on her game,” Cooper said on the We Need to Talk podcast. Drawing from her career, Cooper compared Reese’s mentality to her own competitive fire. “I love her, you know, just her energy out there on the court and her competitive nature.”
“‘Say what you want to say, I’m bringing my A-Game tonight, ‘ right? ‘You’re gonna have to stop me from getting all these rebounds. Stop talking about how I get the rebounds, stop me if you can.’ And I love that attitude of hers and how she’s continuing to get better every single game,” Cooper added. Earning praise from the Houston Comets legend herself might be the very thing Reese needs to move past the loss against Seattle.
