Angel Reese uttered three words that could define the Chicago Sky’s entire season.“We got comfortable,” Reese said after the Phoenix Mercury loss. The Sky were up 22-17 after the first quarter and then went on to score only 8 in the next. Reese was exceptional as always with 15 points, 20 rebounds, and 4 assists. But the Sky hasn’t found the winning formula this season, with only 9 wins so far.

However, with nothing on the line, they are playing without pressure and could be a thorn in the Seattle Storm’s journey, who are vying for the playoffs after dropping down to No.7 in the rankings. But emotions are high in Seattle in these critical moments of the season, and they are not going to let the Sky have its way so easily. Let’s look at the injury situations of both teams going into the game, along with a comprehensive match preview.

The Sky have their rookie point guard, Hailey Van Lith, ruled out with her ankle injury for her second consecutive game. “She has some flare-ups at times with her ankle, and so she’s felt a little soreness,” Marsh had said before their Mercury matchup. “So we want to be cautious with that, especially at the time of the season that we’re in, so, you know, giving her the proper rest and treatment that she needed so that she’s feeling okay.” Along with Van Lith, Courtney Vandersloot remains out after her season-ending ACL tear.

Match Preview And Prediction

The Seattle Storm can’t afford to take Chicago lightly, even if the latter is the worst team in the league with a 9-29 record. The Storm have only four games to go, and this is their last game, which could be considered easy. They have the all-important game against the Sparks coming up, along with the Liberty and the contentious Valkyries. Let’s look at the head-to-head statistical comparison between the two teams.

It’s not a secret that the war on the boards is the only one the Sky dominate, and it has been the area that has gotten them the few wins this season. On the other hand, the Storm is are more connected team with 21.5 assists per game, with Skylar Diggins leading the team at 6.0 assists per game. The Sky can block the paint using their twin towers of Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese; the Storm are slightly lacking in their outside shooting.

However, the efficiency levels are very different: Seattle at 57.2% while Sky are bottom of the league at 49.6%. As expected, the Storm are the favorites with an 82.1% chance to get a win according to the ESPN predictor, and it doesn’t seem like it will go any other way. A 17.9% chance sounds generous to a side that has 2 wins out of the last 18.
