Declaring for the WNBA is like winning a lottery ticket. If an athlete gets a chance to show her skills on the biggest stage, it’s the chance of a lifetime. If not then, her dream of representing her team in the league has ended. This, unfortunately, played out when the Las Vegas Aces waived off former Jackson State star Angel Jackson after the practice camp. Similarly, another Iowa star, Kate Martin, who survived the cuts, is unsure about her future. Fans were distressed because of these developments.

Jackson used to play for the University of Southern California Trojans from 2020-2022. Then she transferred to Jackson State for two years. Similarly, Martin represented Iowa for five years from 2020-2024. And fans couldn’t have been more disappointed.

As per the Des Moines Register, a team can accommodate a maximum of 12 players and the Las Vegas Aces notably went ahead with 11 at the start of the 2023 season.  Jackson had an average of 10 points per game with 6.8 rebounds per match in her final season. Therefore, she was a useful player, being the 36th pick in this year’s WNBA draft. She could have been a valuable addition to Kelsey Plum & Co. However, she was asked to leave the team.

Similarly, though Martin has survived the three cuts of Jackson, Bria Hartley, and Kamaria McDaniel, she still waits on her future since the Aces can go ahead with 11 players like last time. Hence, there is an absolute possibility that she might also be sent off after some time. Nonetheless, the 23-year-old is hoping for the best.

Fans upset over Las Vegas Aces shocking post

Meanwhile, the post announcing the sad news for Jackson was shared on X by the official Las Vegas Aces handle. And fans were quick to pounce on the Aces for what they consider an absurd decision.

“shame on y’all,” commented one fan. The follower showed that he was upset by the latest decision. It has really come as a shock to fans that Jackson was selected this April 15 on the draft day and laid off so early.

“Y’all are really getting on my last nerve,” another user commented. Surely the to and fro decision by the Aces along with keeping Martin’s future in the dark has caused trust issues with fans. They would be really hoping that Jackson soon makes a comeback somehow and that Martin too gets to know about her future without being kept in the dark.

“But Keep Bell? make it make sense!,” another netizen begged. Notably, Kierstan Bell has spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Las Vegas Aces but averaged just a paltry 3.7 points per game with 1.6 rebounds per match. Hence, the fan was disappointed that Bell was getting an extended run.

Another netizen stated, “Y’all so lucky I love A’ja, Chelsea, and Kelsey or I would raise hell.” The Aces have the country’s most talented and popular players like A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, and Kelsey Plum. This has made them fan favorites as well as they won the previous two seasons of the WNBA consecutively.

“EXPAND THE WNBA,” another user suggested. As mentioned before, the WNBA teams can have a 12-spot roster and with so much talent in the country it does appear as a bias to the emerging stars.

Hopefully, the Las Vegas Aces will be able to pacify their fans who will flock to the stadium to watch their favorite stars battle in the upcoming nail-biting thrillers.
