Minnesota guard Olivia Miles, the 2nd overall pick in the 2026 WNBA draft, is certainly turning heads in the league with the kind of impact she has had in her rookie year. With the season reaching just about its halfway point, the Minnesota Lynx rookie has already broken multiple records, even outpacing some of Caitlin Clark’s rookie-season milestones. In fact, she’s even impressed Minnesota Timberwolves’ newest addition LaMelo Ball.

Speaking to reporters for the first time since getting traded by the Charlotte Hornets to the Timberwolves, the 24-year-old was asked about Minnesota’s newest WNBA Star. “LaMelo as a point guard, have you seen Olivia Miles yet?” asked a reporter, to which the 24-year-old Timberwolves player simply said: “Yeah, yeah. She’s cold.”
While LaMelo’s deadpan expression while answering the question drew some laughter, the NBA player was serious.
Miles just made WNBA history in the Lynx’s win vs. the Mercury, becoming the fastest player to reach 400+ points, 100+ rebounds, and 100+ assists. She did it in just 22 games, beating Caitlin Clark, who took two more games to reach the milestone. She also broke Clark’s record for three-pointers in a single game by a rookie with 8. CC scored 7 three-pointers in 2024.

Miles is averaging 19.4 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.7 rebounds, while shooting 50.5% from the field and 36.1% from beyond the arc. She leads the Lynx in points and assists and has started all 22 games she’s played this season.
What’s more impressive is that she is currently a top-5 candidate for the 2026 MVP alongside Clark and A’Ja Wilson, and has secured a spot as a WNBA All-Star starter in her first WNBA season and is the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year.
In such a short time, she has established herself as the main playmaker of this Lynx team. She boasts an offensive rating of 117.6 and a true shooting percentage of 62.5, which is one of the highest in the league per Fox Sports.
What’s even more impressive is that the rookie isn’t just breaking records; her playmaking skills have helped the team reach the top of the league standings with an 18–6 record.
The Lynx Are Title Contenders, Despite Missing A Key Player
Miles has enabled others around her to score freely and play their natural game. Courtney Williams, Natasha Howard and Kayla McBride are all putting up impressive numbers this season. McBride recently scored a season-high 37 points on July 13, 2026, leading the Minnesota Lynx to a thrilling 104-100 victory over the Phoenix Mercury, combining effectively with none other than Miles herself.
Nobody expected the Lynx to be where they are right now before the start of the season. Especially when you consider the fact they were without their franchise player, Napheesa Collier, who has not played this season as she recovers from a leg injury.
Collier finished second in the MVP rankings last year, behind only A’ja Wilson. So if the Lynx did struggle this season, it wouldn’t have come as a total surprise. However, with Miles on the roster, it’s been the opposite.
With Miles taking the offensive burden with ease, the Lynx are perhaps among the most balanced teams in the league at the moment. And with Collier getting back to fitness, one can only expect this Lynx team to be better than they already are.
So it’s no wonder that LaMelo Ball didn’t hesitate to praise his WNBA counterpart.
