She did it again! A’ja Wilson continues to show the hoops world just why she is a unanimous MVP vote-getter this season. She has been incredible on the court; she has been impactful off of it. But the 2x WNBA MVP herself believes that what she did was not enough, despite it being so. Well, you can count tonight as one such instance, as she puts on a serious face with this harsh reality check for herself.

A’ja Wilson was anything but exemplary tonight. At least, one would say so if they watched the last 1.1 seconds of the game, isn’t it? After what seemed like a very long game, the Aces star shuffled through the Sky players to pick an inbounding ball from Chelsea Gray. Without thinking twice, she shifted her gaze to the rim and made a game-winning buzzer-beater. Till then, they were tied at 75 points, pushing for an overtime. But Wilson’s valiant effort brought the visiting Aces the win. Only, that she was not so happy with it.
Talking to Emily Proud on the sidelines after the buzzer-beater miracle, A’ja Wilson expressed what it felt like winning after all the hustle. “It felt great,” and with the same grim face, she added, “I didn’t shoot the best. I actually shot terrible today. I don’t know what’s going on, maybe it’s the 11 o’clock start. But God, he blessed the kid today. We needed this win. So, I’m glad we could go out and get it done.”

During the game as well, A’ja Wilson was quite clear about how not everyone in her group was doing their job. Still, she later praised them for their relentlessness through the tough outing. However, going back home and relaxing a bit has certainly calmed down the 2x Olympic gold medalist.

A’ja Wilson gives the hard-fought win to God
The entire Aces fan group was celebrating their franchise’s all-time leading scorer. After all, it was she who brought the win to them. However, that was not the case for the No. 22 herself. After the road victory, she went on her X account to post about her game and why she grabbed the win after everything. Her tweet read, “Could’ve built a house with my bricks today but WONT HE DO IT on this lovely Sunday afternoon.” Another one read, “The Basketball Gods said “here.. DAMN!” 😩”
Indeed, the night did not go in favor of A’ja Wilson, as most of her shots did not fall into the bucket. At one point before half-time, she was slumping with a 5 of 18 stat line. Nevertheless, keeping her faith, she brought out the monster inside her. The reigning 2023 WNBA Finals MVP wrapped up the night with 20 points, 18 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Surprisingly, her shots were just 8 of 28 from the field, bringing her to just 28.6% tonight.

Nevertheless, it is the win that counts in the end. But seeing A’ja Wilson not happy with her own game shows that she is definitely one of the greatest basketball players, always searching for her better self. For now, the Aces’ time in the Windy City is up and they will take their road trip to Dallas for their third meeting of the season.
