A Steve Kerr heated moment in the NBA wasn’t what piqued Sophie Cunningham’s interest, but the iconic voice that covered the incident did. Snoop Dogg was on commentary duty for the Golden State Warriors vs. the Los Angeles Clippers game, delivering a running, animated reaction that immediately went viral.

“Uh oh! Steve gonna get thrown out!” the rapper said as the sequence unfolded. “Get him out of there! Get him out of there! Back him up!… Steve back in Inglewood right now! Inglewood!… The Arizona Wildcat came out. Look at him.”

As this viral clip spread rapidly across social media, it didn’t go unnoticed by Cunningham. The Indiana Fever guard quickly reposted the video on X, pairing it with a lighthearted caption that caught fans off guard.

“Hahaha my broadcasting career inspo,” Cunningham wrote.

Kerr was ejected in the fourth quarter after receiving back-to-back technical fouls while arguing a no-call. The coach was visibly angry, and as he tried to rush towards the officials to confront them, his assistant and players, Gary Payton II and Gui Santos, held him back.

While Cunningham’s comment was clearly made in fun, the idea of a future in broadcasting isn’t new for her. Back in October 2025, the WNBA guard spoke candidly about her life after basketball, admitting that she hasn’t locked into one path yet but knows she wants to play as long as her body allows.

“I don’t really know what I want to do when I’m done playing,” Cunningham said on her Show Me Something podcast. “I feel like I want to play for as long as I can. Maybe another eight to 10 years. Who knows? I would love to coach, but I also think I want to get married and I want to have a family. The life of coaching is not so ideal for all that. So there’s that.”

“I’d love to do broadcast,” Cunningham continued. “I would love to be in the entertainment space… I would also love to be on a yacht, not doing anything. We have a lot of options. I don’t know yet. It’s kind of being where my two feet are right now.”

In past WNBA offseasons, Cunningham has stepped into the broadcast space as a guest with the Phoenix Suns, gaining firsthand exposure to the media side of the game. But for now, her focus remains on basketball as she prepares for the upcoming WNBA season, where she might or might not play with the Fever.

Sophie Cunningham empowers young basketball players in the WNBA offseason

Sophie Cunningham’s first season with the Fever was a mix of on-court contributions and setbacks. She quickly became a key part of Stephanie White’s rotation, averaging 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. However, Cunningham had to miss the latter part of the season after undergoing surgery in August.

But with her one-year, $100,000 contract now expired, Cunningham enters free agency this offseason, leaving her next WNBA move open. But as she considers her options, the player hasn’t slowed down with her other ventures.
