Sophie Cunningham does not know if the 2026 season of the WNBA is happening. “We don’t know if the W’s happening,” Pat Spinosa, the host of the “Like a Farmer Podcast,” said while interviewing Cunningham. To which she immediately answered, “No, I mean, I hope it does but like with how the CBA negotiations are going …” With questions  around the WNBA’s future and CBA talks still stalled, Cunningham is beginning to think about what comes next.

Spinosa asked, “And you will know that (WNBA future) when?” Cunningham responded with laughs, saying, “No, we don’t. I don’t know. Nobody knows. Do you guys need a ranch hand down on the farm? Because I’m jobless at the moment.” Well, Cunningham is not short of career options beyond playing basketball.

In the past, she has expressed interest in trying out modeling. Her current portfolio of various endorsements includes Adidas, Arby’s, and Sun Cruiser, among others. However, after she is all said and done with her basketball career, Cunningham wants to explore opportunities in the NBA.

She admitted much of her time so far has been dedicated to playing basketball. So much so that she hasn’t had much time “to explore other passions.” One thing she is sure of is that her retirement plan includes chatting.

“I think definitely it has something to do with broadcasting, maybe hosting my own show, doing stuff in the NBA. I just don’t know, but probably something around talking,” She said in the interview. “I mean, I could talk to a wall for 10 hours. I get that straight from my mom.”

Cunningham could fit right in the NBA media circuit where her teammate Caitlin Clark debuted. Clark was a special contributor for NBC’s “Basketball Night in America.” For a more regular precedent, Candace Parker has been an NBA analyst for 8 years and is now a staple of the coverage.

Aliyah Boston, while not in the NBA, has now been a Big Ten analyst for two years. So, Cunningham has a lot of people around her to learn from if and when she makes that transition. But it’s not just her career she’s mapping out; Cunningham has her personal future just as clearly in sight.

Sophie Cunningham Drops the Honest Truth Behind Her Wedding Plans

This question has been posed to Sophie Cunningham before. In a Q and A on her Instagram last year, Cunningham replied to this question from a fan by posting a video of herself chugging a drink courtside at the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game. “I’ve received this question A LOT,” She said.

“I think it’s because I’m a rat and an embarrassment to society. “Also, this was all ice and doesn’t do my skills any justice,” she continued, referencing the video. “But back to being not married, it’ll happen before I die CAUSE WON’T HE DO IT.” While it was all fun and games for Cunningham at the time, she has finally revealed her true intentions regarding marriage.

“I also want to be married. I want to have kids,” Cunningham said. I want to definitely have that and have more of a traditional kind of family feel.” However, the Indiana Fever star explained that she is not walking down the aisle any time soon.

“I also know that there’s just so much that I feel like I’ve been blessed with and I want to explore those. Like it or not, it would be a disservice to not,” Cunningham said. “And so I just don’t; it’s just like a matter of when I get to explore all these other things that I’m interested in.” In the immediate future, Cunningham is likely to continue with basketball. She is still 29 and had her statistically best year on the court this past season. While her future at Fever remains unconfirmed, Cunningham is very likely to impress wherever she is.
