Sophie Cunningham is not only a country music girl but she also has her own song in the works. “I think that there might be something kind of cool in the background brewing that I might be doing something with someone. A little country artist, because that’s more my vibe,” she said back in February. No details were provided but it’s clear that her country music fandom is going up another level. While she was working on that project, Cunningham was met with a surprise that made her “lose all focus.”
Sophie Cunningham was going about her training camp like it was any other day. The season is approaching and Cunningham is under pressure to deliver after a career-best shooting season last year. In addition, she is coming off an MCL injury that makes the anticipation even worse. But, out of nowhere, her childhood icon dropped by practice, making her a ‘fangirl’ like never before.
Country Music star Blake Shelton dropped by practice with a Fever jersey in his name. Seeing him, Cunningham’s jaws dropped. “I just lost all focus,” she said. “How are you doing? Nice to meet you,” said Griffin as Cunningham could not stop smiling and completely going gaga like a fan would when meeting her. Cunningham and the whole team cheered on as he displayed his Fever girl and shared photos. Cunningham said goodbye like she was departing with an old friend, saying, “See you, Blake.”
Shelton was in Indianapolis to open his new Ole Red, a multi-level bar, restaurant, and live music venue, on Meridian Street in downtown Indianapolis. Shelton is collaborating with Pacers owner Herb Simon in this investment as well. “We’ve done a few of these now, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen this much support from a community,” Shelton said.
He was presented with his custom Fever jersey during that opening. After which he dropped by practice to greet the team. “I don’t fan girl over anyone BUT @blakeshelton 🔥 hands down the best,” Cunningham wrote. Her reaction immediately caught fire on social media as fans loved to see their two worlds clashing.
Indiana Fever Fans Lose It Over Sophie Cunningham’s Blake Shelton Moment
“Sophie completely ‘dying’ as a super fan 😂,” wrote one. “This is fulfilling a lifelong dream for Sophie 😂,” pitched another. Cunningham country music love is displayed in every other TikTok or instagram story she posts. So, her reaction is a normal one. But fans see stars like Cunningham from a different lens.
Such interactions humanize the stars fans usually look up to. It shows that they have their idols as well. This incident just makes Cunningham more relatable. And the crossover between country music and Indiana Fever hits home for the fans as well.

“As a Blake Shelton and Fever fan, I’m screaming omfg,😭” wrote a fan. “a Fever & Blake Shelton crossover was not on my bucket list, but I’m absolutely here for it 👏🏼😂,” praised another. It’s not the first time Fever has done something like this. Country music star Wynonna Judd is an Indiana Fever fan and the franchise has uploaded multiple link-ups with her as well.
“I don’t get excited about a lot, but this is my absolute dream,” Judd said when she met up with Cunningham last year. Shelton and Judd certainly help Fever connect better with their fans and bring in even more. But Shelton’s link-up is a business one as well and fans predict it will be a huge success.
“He’s smart.. putting his bar a few blocks from the Arena.. he knows what’s going on. That place will be crazy on game nights,🔥” wrote a fan. Indiana Fever has the biggest fanbase in the league. The Gainbridge Fieldhouse is often filled to the brim with more than 17000 fans showing up each game. So, when the tickets are unavailable, Ole Red will give fans the atmosphere they crave. And it’s opening just before the WNBA season, which gives it even more hype.
