Sophie Cunningham has made quite a name for herself both on and off the court with stylistic play and a charismatic attitude. With the offseason currently underway, she has been busy with her podcast and other personal ventures. But Cunningham’s recent comment about the Angelenos has not sat well with the community.

“I don’t think I am an LA girl at all. It’s just weird, like people don’t dance. People don’t even say hi; they have no personalities, and they all look the same. It’s weird, please tell me that’s not weird,” shared Sophie Cunningham.

Now, Cunningham’s comment has touched several nerves.

Sophie is not from the Los Angeles belt and obviously isn’t someone familiar with the West Coast scene, so it’s natural for her not to see eye to eye with the culture and people there.

But the fact that she would go to the extent of maligning the good name of the popular Californian city has now drawn the ire of the people, who are not letting this one slide.

Fans Furious After Sophie Cunningham’s Harsh Remarks On LA

“Who is sophie cunningham?” asked one.

It’s not natural not to know who Sophie Cunningham is. She is a big name in women’s basketball with the Phoenix Mercury and is now playing with the Indiana Fever, the same team that Caitlin Clark plays for. She is not just CC’s teammate but also her close associate who stands by her every step of the way. The sarcastic jab of this fan was to shoot her off for not being relevant enough.

“I like Sophie, but making a blanket statement is weak,” remarked another who seemed genuinely hurt. LA has always been the home to Hollywood, where people come to chase their dreams, try their luck in the entertainment industry. There is a rich cultural diversity, welcoming neighborhoods, and creative communities. In fact, West Hollywood may feel different from those in East LA, Koreatown, or community-driven areas like Leimert Park. So everything might not feel homogenous.

People are busy on the move, influencers are doing their thing, so it’s definitely a mixed bag. Labeling it with a biased sentiment is what fans got upset about.

“And what makes her so authentic?” read one comment.

Sophie’s authenticism has now been pulled into the mix. Cunningham has always had that bold persona that has quite a gravitating effect. Her “fearless” and “unapologetically confident” personality has also been noticed by analysts. It’s not without anything that the Phoenix Suns invited her to their program as a recurring analyst back in December 2022. But that won’t placate the situation now that damage has already been done.

“Except she’s a total b—h for how she treated her assistant coach last year! Entitled POS!” criticized one.

It stems from last year when Cunningham found herself under the microscope after the Game 3 loss against the Las Vegas Aces. A viral video showed an interaction between her and Indiana assistant Briann January, who was trying to keep Cunningham and Caitlin Clark seated while they asked for a replay review for a hard foul by Aces forward NaLyssa Smith on Fever star Kelsey Mitchell with 6:20 left in the fourth quarter.

Cunningham was nonchalant about the whole matter and waved off January’s warnings, which looked disrespectful to everyone.

But was it intentionally disrespectful? Guess we would know that only if Sophie addresses her LA comments.
