After a rough patch, the Seattle Storm is again finding its groove. While Jewell Loyd, Nneka Ogwumike, and Skylar Diggins-Smith are the obvious stars in this team, there seems to be another one taking over. Jordan Horston, who recorded her first double-double of the season, pushed the team to completely thrash the visiting Dallas Wings. Later, she gave the entire league a fair warning, setting her aim for the season.

In her sideline interview after the 97-76 win over Dallas, Jordan Horston shared her target. She mentioned, “I want to get a championship.” This statement by the former Lady Vol came when she was reminded that in the last two wins, her defense has stopped the likes of Caitlin Clark and Arike Ogunbowale. For that, she said, “I take pride in that. Growing up, I didn’t used to play unless I was playing defense. So, you know, I always carried that. I know that defense wins championships and that’s what I wanna get.”

Horston further added, “Now y’all know I can get busy too.” In the last two games, the ninth overall pick in 2023 had 17 points, 15 rebounds, and 9 assists combined. She also added a total of 2 steals and 2 blocks in wins over the Wings and the Fever. Tonight, bagged her first double-double for the season as well. But the rest of the team was also in Dallas’ face on both ends of the floor.

Seattle had set its focus this year to try and grab the championship trophy. They are in the fourth position in the league for their offense and defense. Moreover, they are trailing only Minnesota in the Western Conference standings. Most of their offensive credits go to Jewell Loyd, of course. The 30-year-old guard came to the floor tonight after grabbing a season-high 34 points against Caitlin Clark’s Fever. Tonight marks her third 30+ point game that brought a win to the team. She also contributed 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals to cap off the night.

Adding more strength to Jodan Horston and Jewell Loyd are the veterans of the team. Nneka Ogwumike had 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. At the same time, Skylar Diggins-Smith made 11 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals tonight. Ezi Magbegor also bagged 13 points to end the night with all starters in double-digit scoring.

While they have a break for now, Seattle will again host Dallas for a back-to-back chance of winning over the team led by Arike Ogunbowale. Leading into the second half of the season, it will be interesting to see how things work out for Storm in the upcoming games.
