The new Unrivaled season has arrived with storylines everywhere. From watching fan-favorite Breeze BC hoop at a high level to Chelsea Gray leading the defending champions once again, it’s been a fun couple of weeks. But ask Sue Bird who’s impressed her the most, and she’ll point right to Aliyah Boston.

“Who really stands out to me is Aliyah Boston,” Bird said in the latest episode of her Bird’s Eye View podcast. “Aliyah Boston looks great right now. She looked great in USA camp. She’s now really found her game. [She] just has a confidence about, ‘this is what I do, and I’m gonna be great at these things, and one of those things is playmaking.”

She continues,” If you can have a post player in 3-on-3 who can playmake, I mean, it’s so hard to guard guards as it is because the floor is so open. To have a post player who can make the pass, that’s going to be so helpful to the Plums, the ‘Tif’ Hayes’, the Dana Evans’.”
Boston entered this Unrivaled season fresh off a breakout 2025 campaign, earning her first All-WNBA honors and leading the Fever to their first playoff series win since 2015 while averaging a career-high 15 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. The 2023 No. 1 overall pick then impressed at the Women’s National Team Training Camp in December and has continued that dominance in Unrivaled.
So far, Boston has lived up to Bird’s praise. She’s just shy of a double-double in the tournament, averaging 16.3 points and 9.7 rebounds in roughly 15 minutes per game. That has her sitting 13th in scoring and fourth in rebounds across the league as per Sports Illustrated. And her playmaking has improved as well.

She’s already racked up 10 assists in three games, which comes out to roughly 3.3 per contest, ranking second among forwards according to Sports Illustrated. As Bird noted, Boston has really worked on this part of her game, and it showed during the W season as well. With Caitlin Clark sidelined, coach White repeatedly stressed the need to play through Boston, and the result was a career-high 3.7 assists per game.
Boston’s form has been huge for Phantom BC. They’ve won two of their first three and look like a team that should make the postseason as well. Kelsey Plum, in particular, has thrived alongside Aliyah Boston. She nearly posted the first triple-double in Unrivaled history and made a sly remark on Boston.

Kelsey Plum Makes Her Feelings Clear on Aliyah Boston
One of the coolest things about Unrivaled is getting to see WNBA players who usually go at each other now play together on the same side. It creates new chemistry, new friendships, and we saw that with Plum and Boston after their game against the Lunar Owls, where Plum went off for 38 points, 12 assists, and 8 rebounds.
After the game, we saw some friendly banter from Plum. The LA Sparks guard was asked how cool it was to get to play with Aliyah Boston in Unrivaled, and she replied: “I mean, I’ve been complaining all year about moving screens, and here we are.” To which the cameras caught Boston rolling her eyes and making a suspicious face when Plum said this. The Fever center then walked up to the microphone and said, “I don’t set moving screens, let’s start there.”

Fans are enjoying the chemistry and playful jabs between Plum and Boston, and you can bet Fever fans will be keeping a close eye on Phantom BC.
