The Chicago Sky have officially announced the arrival of Tyler Marsh as their new head coach. Marsh previously held the position of assistant coach and head of player development with the Las Vegas Aces. His appointment has been met with excitement from the Sky’s standout player, Angel Reese, who is looking forward to building a strong partnership with him. Interestingly, the winds of change were felt even before Marsh’s official announcement, if not by anyone, at least Sydney Colson, a player from his former team, the Aces. While it may have come as a surprise to many, Colson hinted at Marsh’s departure long ago.

The Chicago Sky was on the hunt for a new head coach, but not many anticipated that Tyler Marsh would be the one stepping into the role. Interestingly, Sydney Colson had an inkling that something was brewing with Marsh even back in June. She noted that Marsh was contemplating a move when he tweeted about the Sky’s squad, expressing admiration for their mentality.

In his late June post, Marsh wrote, “Future of the Sky is in good hands. Young, tough & don’t give af about anybody’s opinions other than their own. Gotta respect it.” Well, this tweet was quite telling, especially since Marsh remained committed to the Las Vegas Aces, a direct competitor in the same league as the Sky. Colson noticed Marsh’s admiration for the Sky and couldn’t help but respond. She retweeted his post with a cheeky comment, asking, “This you quitting?”

Fast forward four months and Tyler Marsh has officially joined the Chicago Sky as their new head coach. At just 36 years old, Marsh comes on board with an impressive resume, having helped the Las Vegas Aces to back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023. His enthusiasm for this new chapter is palpable, especially considering his long-standing admiration for star player Angel Reese.

Tyler Marsh’s quick outreach sets the stage for a promising partnership with Angel Reese

Late Saturday evening, the Chicago Sky made it official: Tyler Marsh is their new head coach. And Marsh didn’t waste any time getting started. Almost right after the announcement, he reached out to the team’s star player, Angel Reese, who shone during her rookie season. A fan account devoted to Reese even shared a snapshot of the news, posting, “One of Tyler Marsh’s first actions as the new head coach of the @ChicagoSky was to call Angel Reese. 🚨”

This quick outreach from Marsh signals his enthusiasm for forging a solid relationship with Reese, laying the groundwork for a successful collaboration as they prepare for the new season. Reese also marked Marsh’s arrival at the Windy City franchise with a straightforward yet meaningful tweet, simply posting the letter “W.”

With good reason to feel excited, Reese knows that playing under Marsh’s guidance is a great opportunity, especially since he has been closely following her development since her days at LSU. In a tweet he posted back in January, he noted, “Drastic difference in AR (Reese) footwork when patient vs. when rushed. Been on point today. Keep feeding her.”

It will be intriguing to watch how Reese’s game develops with a coach who genuinely appreciates her talent and encourages her from the sidelines. Nevertheless, with the surprising decision to appoint Marsh as the head coach of the Chicago Sky, it’s clear that Colson’s instincts were spot on.
