After an injury-riddled 2025 season, Caitlin Clark will be back on the court soon. She’s set to make her long-awaited debut with Team USA. But as always, she’s already making waves in the headlines—just not for her shooting or playmaking skills. Instead, the focus is on her jersey.

For most of us, No. 22 is synonymous with Caitlin Clark. She wore that same number with the Iowa Hawkeyes, then with the Indiana Fever, and naturally, fans expected it to stay the same with Team USA. But that’s not the case. According to the latest updates, CC won’t be wearing her iconic No. 22.
For the first time in her college, WNBA, or national spotlight journey, the superstar guard will be suiting up in No. 17. The switch comes as part of Team USA’s strict numbering rules, which don’t allow players to share jersey numbers during national team events. With several stars already occupying 22 or nearby digits, Clark had to pivot. And while it’s only for the training camp in Durham from December 12–14, the sight of her in a new number is already turning heads.
