The conversation over DiJonai Carrington’s action against Sophie Cunningham has taken a new turn as former NFL star Emmanuel Acho posed a pertinent question to the Chicago Sky guard. “You are correct, @DijonaiVictoria,” he wrote on X in response to Carrington. “My assumption, along with the majority of the sports world, was that you posting ‘white privilege’ immediately following being thrown out of a game for fouling somebody white was regarding the foul. But if the two things are somehow not connected, that’s on me. I’ll stand corrected. 🙏🏾”

“However, America is a speaker oriented country, so the burden is on you for being clear, direct and easy to understand.”

The online altercation began after Acho initially accused Carrington of undermining the meaning of white privilege by connecting it to the play. The 28-year-old pushed back against Acho and insisted that he had misunderstood the meaning behind her post.

“I’ve never once claimed that the assessment of the foul was white privilege (that was your assumption). Try exercising your critical thinking skills, I know you studied psych,” she wrote on X. Rather than let the exchange end there, Acho chose to respond again. All of this began with a Flagrant 2 on Cunningham.

Sophie Cunningham is the WNBA’s most polarizing figure this season. After Carrington’s post put race at the center of the conversation, Cunningham called out her opponent directly.

“This has nothing to do with race. Last year, I did the same thing, and I got kicked out. And I deserved to be kicked out. There’s no reason even to play that card,” Cunningham said, according to ESPN’s Kareen Copeland.

This latest controversy comes as Sophie Cunningham’s profile continues to grow well beyond the basketball court. Sources have also told Page Six that the 29-year-old is proposing a book project to elaborate on the whole matter. The hearsay is slated to generate “significant interest” already, per The Sporting News.

Despite the reports, no publisher or release date has been attached to the reported book yet, and Sophie Cunningham’s representatives have not publicly confirmed anything.
