Silver recognized the growth in Women’s Basketball but also highlighted how much work remains to be done before the season. The NBA Commissioner highlighted that we are in the ’11th hour’ and that all parties need to have a sense of urgency. And media veteran Robin Lunderg has pointed out that Silver might not be happy with the current situation, which is why he has chosen to publicly pressure all parties to agree.

Speaking in the latest video of his YouTube channel, Robin Lundberg said, “I feel like if the players give a response to the WNBA proposal, and we don’t wait again, because maybe the WNBA shouldn’t have, even if they didn’t think it was worth responding to, waited this long. We all know the clock works as an incentive here, just like Adam Silver was alluding to… You heard the commissioner of the NBA, the 11th hour of urgency, unfortunate. That’s not messaging from somebody who’s happy about this.”

The WNBA CBA proposal has moved in a positive direction, something WNBPA vice president Breanna Stewart agreed with as well. The latest proposal from the governing body included extra concessions regarding housing, along with a minor increase in revenue sharing, in what is seen as a step in the right direction.

However, the players’ union has remained adamant in its suggestions for revenue sharing and salary cap so far, something which the WNBA does not seem enthusiastic about. Some players have started casting doubts on the negotiations and the possibility of a full season happening, which is ultimately going to hurt all parties involved, since the CBA terms will include a revenue-sharing model regardless of the specific terms.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver is aware that the offseason proceedings, like the Expansion Draft, WNBA Draft, and Free Agency, should be completed before preseason training begins. This gives all the parties involved a little over 2 months to sort out the CBA terms, making it legitimate, and then proceeding to complete the other offseason duties.

While Silver has not proposed a deadline, his words will serve as a reminder of everything that is at stake in Women’s Basketball for all the parties involved.

Adam Silver hints at the unspoken reality surrounding the WNBA

The need for a quick CBA resolution is paramount. The window to get everything done and have a full 2026 season is closing fast. With revenue sharing now a part of the CBA terms, the WNBA, the teams, and the players all stand to lose revenue in case we do not have a full season.

But NBA commissioner Adam Silver pointed out the unspoken reality surrounding the WNBA. The league is coming off its most successful few years in terms of viewership, revenue, popularity, and attendance. The rise of the league has attracted global attention and widespread media coverage.

Silver hinted that the league and the players cannot afford to lose the momentum generated over the recent years. When the WNBA and the players should look to leverage the momentum and continue to grow the sport, the stalled CBA is only increasing the number of disgruntled fans who are eager to see their favorite stars in action.

The record-breaking Philadelphia Tour Stop by Unrivaled attracted 21,490 people in attendance, showing just how big the market is becoming for Women’s Basketball.

Even Robin Lundberg stated that the current negotiation phase looks like the generated momentum is being weaponized for better terms rather than being recognized in its pure form.

The WNBA has shown its hand, and the ball is now in the court of the players, who must respond to the governing body’s proposal and come to a compromise soon.
