The WNBA recently caught the attention and appreciation of basketball fans all over the world. Two super teams were made in the league, the Las Vegas Aces and the New York Liberty, with a main focus on generating more viewership and funds for the league. Although this decision of super teams did make a huge impact in the league, many aspects of the WNBA are still behind the NBA. 

On a podcast, a social media personality gave a controversial statement about the WNBA being subsidized by men.

Banned from TikTok after gaining almost 930,000 followers, Pearl Davis is widely known for her anti-feminist and misogynistic comments. Even after getting banned, she still hasn’t stopped sharing her piece of mind through YouTube and Twitter. While she had many arguable claims over the years that have secured her the name of ‘Female Andrew Tate’, a recent one has sent shockwaves in the WNBA world and its fans.

Davis, on a recent episode of the Pearl Daily podcast, made a controversial claim regarding the financial support of the WNBA. She said, “The WNBA is completely subsidized by the men. Basically, what happened is the women will cry and whine and say give me more money, give me more money and they keep getting more money, more benefits, everything, right. Even though they do not offer value.”

This statement by Davis suggested that women in the WNBA shouldn’t be paid as equal to men in the NBA as they both offer really different values to their respective sports. has ignited a debate about the financial landscape of the WNBA, within the league and among its fans.

Notably, women’s fight for fair pay still continues.

Let’s take an example to understand this situation better, as per ‘The Express’, the Las Vegas Aces star, A’ja Wilson made around $200,000 in the 2023 season, whereas, as per ESPN, the Los Angeles Lakers star, LeBron James earned over $49 million annually.
