Ever since Caitlin Clark was drafted into the WNBA, she has turned the tables upside down. Initially, she gained renown for an “effect” in the women’s league that helped garner a massive audience to arenas. But by the second half of the season, she once again changed the narrative surrounding her. In just five games after the Olympic break, she’s the lone contender in the ROTY race.

On August 31st, the Indiana Fever faced off against the Chicago Sky for the last time this season at Wintrust Arena. Since both Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark have set historic records, their performances were highly anticipated. However, something unexpected happened when they locked horns.

For Clark, domination was relatively easy, but Reese seemed a bit off today. The Indiana Fever standout scored 29 illustrious points with 12 assists during 32 minutes of gameplay. Chi-town Barbie, on the other hand, struggled, scoring only 5 points while grabbing 10 rebounds in 28 minutes of gameplay.

At this point in time, performance plays a key role in deciding the outcome of the Rookie of the Year race. As the saying goes, ‘slow and steady wins the race,’ and Clark’s steady performances are putting her ahead of Reese. Though the Chicago Sky guard was the first rookie in WNBA history to achieve over 7 double-doubles, her failure to meet expectations has led fans to express their frustration.

Fans shocking reaction to Angel Reese’s performance today

Despite leading the league in rebounds with 12.9 per game, Angel Reese’s inability to maintain her average has disappointed her fans. “As an Angel Reese fan, give Caitlin Clark ROTY, wrote one X user. Even in her last game against the Washington Mystics, Reese delivered only an average performance, scoring 7 points with 14 rebounds in 35 minutes.

It might seem impressive until you compare it with her performances before the last two games. She consistently achieved double-doubles, including 20+ rebounds in 3 of the 5 games. Now you see why fans are upset? Caitlin Clark is absolutely cooking Chicago, and Angel Reese is a no-show. If you actually watch the games, you’d know damn well there’s no ROTY race. It’s obviously Clark, added another user.

For spectators, Clark’s performance is beyond words, especially due to her consistent record-breaking feats. She holds the record for the most assists per game and has created a new legacy with a triple-double triumph as a rookie in WNBA history. Even in her last game, she stood out by claiming the three-point record. That’s why fans are biased in favor of Clark.

“Angel Reese is having an incredible rookie season, but Caitlin Clark should be a -10000 favorite for ROTY right now,” added a spectator. Indeed, today’s game was memorable for Clark and her team, as they won the season series over the Sky with an astonishing 100-81 score. But the quest for the ROTY title remains. What do you think? Who’ll win?
