With the disappointing ending the Indiana Fever had to their season, there is every indication that roster changes are coming in the offseason. And while the season is not even officially over yet, speculation about some of those changes has already begun to circulate, with a potential Lexie Hull trade among the scenarios being discussed.

For one WNBA analyst reacting to the news on his Keep The Vision YouTube channel, Hull’s potential departure would not be an entirely unwelcome development, because her defensive ability, in his view, has not been up to the greatest. But even if Hull eventually leaves, he does not see the proposed replacement, Satou Sabally, as good enough for the Fever’s defensive needs.

“This is what happens when you underachieve,” he said. “When you underachieve, nobody’s safe. Nobody’s safe when you underachieve to the level that the Indiana Fever did. And also the New York Liberty, which is why they are in this conversation.”

“There is a huge trade scenario that is involving the Indiana Fever and the New York Liberty. This is courtesy of Bleacher Report. They are reporting that there could be a trade scenario on the table for Satou Sabally of the New York Liberty. It says the Indiana Fever would receive Satou Sabally.”

“The New York Liberty would receive Lexie Hull and a 2027 second-round pick. Would Satou Sabally help Indiana’s defensive struggles? Probably not. Red flag. …Lexie Hull hasn’t shown that she’s a good defender. She tries hard. She plays hard, but really locking people down? Nah. And she couldn’t shoot the ball to save her life this season,” he added.

Lexie Hull was in fact a regular fixture in the Indiana Fever’s rotation this season. She played in all 44 games and started 41 of them, averaging 18.6 minutes per game and finishing the year with averages of 5.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 0.7 assists, and 0.6 steals. Her individual defensive rating sat around 110.6, a number that reflects how much defensive work she had to do in a very fast-paced system, even if the overall results were inconsistent.

For this WNBA analyst, however, Hull’s performance still seems below what the Indiana Fever needs, which is why there’s a need for an upgrade. That upgrade, however, is not Satou Sabally, who only played 13 games for the New York Liberty during the 2026 WNBA season, as she faced multiple health setbacks.

Overall, it’s however quite difficult to tie Hull’s defensive performance alone to the broader defensive concerns surrounding the Fever. Indiana finished the regular season ranked 9th out of 15 teams in defensive rating at 110.3, surrendering 90.4 points per game. That sounded more like a team issue.

For a franchise with championship aspirations and the league’s most historically potent offence, that defensive gap remains the clearest obstacle between where the Fever are and where they want to be. Addressing it in the offseason is not optional. It is essential. But whether that means trading Lexie Hull remains to be seen.

“We’re Not Going to Get This Group Again”: Lexie Hull Reflects on Possible Changes to the Fever Roster

The reality for the Indiana Fever is that there are likely to be changes to the roster next season. This is a reality that Lexie Hull is well aware of, which is why the disappointing end to the season felt even more painful for her.

“I think it’s disappointing,” Hull said. “I think because our team was healthy, there are more expectations. And with that, there comes more disappointment for us. Obviously, it sucks to be here and to have games still going on. We went into this season with goals of winning a championship, so anything less than that is disappointing.”

“I think that’s the hardest pill to swallow, is we’re not going to get this group again, just like we didn’t get last year’s group again,” she said. “So, it sucks, but we have a great group. We loved each other. We enjoyed playing together, and it sucks it ended earlier than we wanted,” she added.

As it appears, Hull’s name is now among the first being mentioned in discussions about potential roster changes, particularly following the proposed trade involving Satou Sabally. The Fever will, however, be hoping to keep their core players together at all costs, especially Kelsey Mitchell, who is entering unrestricted free agency for the first time.
