Though Smith impressed last season with an average of 10.6 points per game and 7.1 rebounds, it was her lowest-scoring season and she became determined to leave after a section of Indiana fans started calling her out for her performances and her seeing a decreased amount of playing time in the playoffs.

This led to rumors circulating throughout the postseason about her leaving the team and so she did. She was traded for Sophie Cunningham, officially closing the chapter on her three-year run with the Fever.
