The Dallas Wings have been one of the WNBA’s biggest success stories this season. The team won nine games in 2024 and 10 in 2025. However, this year, Paige Bueckers powered the team to a massive resurgence as they entered the All-Star Break with an 18-9 record. Unfortunately for the Wings, that momentum has hit a wall as they now have a 20-14 record and have lost five of their last seven games.

While the Wings finally stopped a three-game skid, winning their latest game against Toronto 94-88, it may have been because of the mindset Bueckers spoke about during the pregame broadcast on Prime, addressing her team’s efforts to steady the ship.

“We’re trying to stay grounded. We’re trying to stay present, and we’re trying to stay positive. Every team hits a rough patch… It’s about how you respond to it and how you are resilient through it and how you just respond to a challenge,” she said in a clip posted to X by USA Sports.

“So everybody was happy; everything was glitz and glam when we won six in a row. Had tough wins on the road, tough wins in the fourth quarter, but how are you when you’re losing? Do you still show up to work with passion, with joy, with a fire, with an intensity, with the same focus that you had when you were losing to get through it?”

Since All-Star Weekend, Dallas has gone on their season-worst losing streak of three consecutive games, capped off by their loss to the Minnesota Lynx on August 9 when Kayla McBride set a WNBA record by knocking down 10 threes.

A key part of these losses has been the lack of rookie Azzi Fudd, who has been sidelined due to right knee soreness. Subsequently, the team’s three-point percentage has plummeted, going from a respectable 34% to an abysmal 29%. To add to this, she has also been the team’s leading perimeter defender, averaging 1.7 steals per game over the year.

Still, Bueckers has refused to use the adversity the team has faced as an excuse. Instead, using it as the next challenge in Dallas’ championship hopes.

“The only way is through,” she added during the broadcast. “The only ones that can help us out of this is us. So we’re trying to stay together, stay positive, trying to get better every single day. I mean, I can’t be complacent with the 19 wins that we have. We understand like we had 10 last year, 10 or nine the year before. But we want to continue to keep getting better and not get complacent with the 19 wins.”

With the win against the Toronto Tempo, the Dallas Wings have managed to hold onto the 7th seed in the playoffs. Despite hitting a rough patch, Paige Bueckers and Co have a genuine shot at making it to the playoffs. Unlike the last two seasons, the Wings have already done most of the work, and now they just have to make sure to revive the momentum that got them here.
