The Indiana Fever have just won two back-to-back games. With a 12-8 record, they sit comfortably in fifth place in the league. However, they have been without Caitlin Clark since June 24. Now there is growing uncertainty regarding Aliyah Boston’s availability as well.

Boston is reported as questionable for the game against the LA Sparks, which is not a great sign of things for the Fever. Losing both Clark and Boston would complicate things for the franchise, who are being chased by the New York Liberty and Atlanta Dream in the league standings.

Clark aggravated a chronic back injury on June 24 in the match against the Phoenix Mercury. With Boston’s status in question, it would be great to have Clark back in action against the Sparks, but there would be minute restrictions if she is given the nod.

“Obviously, I think it would be very difficult for me to play both this one on Wednesday and then the one on Thursday, but we’ll see,” Clark told reporters during the practice session on Tuesday.

“From a health standpoint, and then just getting back into it. I’d assume I’ll be on a minutes restriction tomorrow. Still hopefully over 20, if I’m able to go.”

Boston’s status is expected to be evaluated on a day-to-day basis. She is suffering from a right lower leg injury. She has spent this season managing this nagging injury, originally sustained during the off-season in the ‘Unrivaled’ league tournament. She missed the Fever’s early preseason games as well.

With Clark, there is a crucial underlying context here. She appeared in only 13 of 44 games during an injury-plagued 2025 season. This makes the Fever management’s choice to limit her minutes a deliberate choice rather than a simple situational consideration. She has been on the probable list 13 times previously this season, which is why it is still uncertain if she will feature or not, although Clark would be gunning to start.

Indiana has been criticized for their injury transparency. Early in the season, the WNBA issued the Fever an official warning for an injury report violation after sudden and confusing messaging regarding Clark’s back management.

Both Clark and Boston have been in fine form this season. Clark is averaging 21.2 points, 8.2 assists, and 4.0 rebounds. Meanwhile, Boston is averaging 17.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game.

While Clark’s absence has been well-handled until now, it remains to be seen if that will be the case if both Clark and Boston are out. Clark’s scoring output has been somewhat handled by Kelsey Mitchell. Mitchell has averaged 27.7 points, 3.6 assists, and 1.6 rebounds per game across her last three outings as the primary offensive option for the Fever. But Boston’s absence can hurt Indiana defensively, an area where they have been inconsistent this season.

Indiana Needs To Be Consistent To Challenge For The Playoffs

The Fever led the WNBA with a 112.2 offensive rating. However, they concede 88.9 points per game, which is 11th in the league. If they want to keep their place in the upper echelon of teams, they will have to be consistent on both ends of the floor.

They face a brutal month ahead, as in their next few games, they have a low-rest, heavy-travel schedule and consecutive matchups against the WNBA’s top championship contenders. They are set to face the Las Vegas Aces, Golden State Valkyries, Seattle Storm, New York Liberty, and Minnesota Lynx in this period.

How they navigate this stretch will have a drastic impact on the success of their season. They need to sort out their roster and injury issues and be consistent in their output.
