Unrivaled completed its 48-player roster hours after securing a major investor. The league has wasted little time building towards its third season, and now it has returned with a new wave of announcements, this time focusing on filling the final spots for the upcoming third season’s roster with four intriguing names, including Satou Sabally, who returns after missing 2026 due to injury.

The quartet officially completes the league’s roster for the third season, with all 48 spots now accounted for, and the third season is set to start in January 2027 and run through March. Of the four players, Sabally, Rice, and Taylor are all signed on multi-year contracts, with Morrow’s announcement notably missing that detail.

Sabally is returning to the league after participating in the 2025 season for Phantom BC, before having to miss the 2026 season due to concussion-related symptoms. Over her first season, she averaged 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 14 games.

Apart from Sabally, though, the other three are Unrivaled newcomers.

Rice, a former UCLA star, has a connection to Unrivaled despite not having played in the league.

Along with current WNBA stars Olivia Miles and Lauren Betts, Rice was one of 14 collegiate athletes who were selected in 2025 to be part of the inaugural ‘Future is Unrivaled’ NIL program, which was meant to connect the league with the next generation of women’s basketball talent.

Rice’s signing validates the league’s 2025 NIL strategy. Instead of waiting for college basketball’s biggest stars to reach the WNBA before pursuing opportunities with them, they took the initiative to establish a connection earlier.

The second new joinee is Taylor, a Chicago Sky guard. The rookie announced herself with a solid first season in the league, averaging 13.6 points, 2.0 assists, and 1.7 rebounds in 20.6 minutes per game over 37 appearances for the team. She was selected for the AP All-Rookie First Team. Notably, this is not her first foray into 3×3 basketball.

Taylor led Team USA’s 3×3 U23 team to fourth place in the 2023 Nations League with a team-high 47 points in the tournament. The guard has built a solid international resume as a 3×3 player for Team USA, and that should help her fit right in.

Then, there is Aneesah Morrow, who is another solid young player who joins an increasingly diverse group for Season 3. Last season in the WNBA, she averaged 11.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while being a major acquisition for the Toronto Tempo at the trade deadline.

The timing of their announcements is intriguing because hours earlier, Unrivaled had announced a new, high-profile Series C investor.

Issa Rae Investment Highlights Unrivaled’s Rapid Rise

In a website announcement, Unrivaled revealed that actor, producer, and entrepreneur Issa Rae had officially joined the league as an investor. She joined the league as part of the oversubscribed Series C fundraiser, which valued the company at $650 million.

Speaking on her decision to join the league as an investor via a statement in the announcement, Rae explained that she saw great potential in Unrivaled as being able to build “something special.”

“Unrivaled speaks to me and everyone who wants to set new standards, and what the league has done and continues to do for the best women’s basketball players in the world is something I’m proud to invest in,” she said.

“After experiencing Unrivaled firsthand last season, it was clear that they’re building something special. I look forward to being part of the league’s growth and success to come.”

The league, which was co-founded in 2023 by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, hit the ground running from inception. They secured a national television deal with TNT Sports early, and then secured major investors in their Series B financing round in 2025.

The round was oversubscribed and saw the league valued at $340 million.

With the business side of Unrivaled continuing to expand at the same time as their on-court talent pool, Season 3 is beginning to look like much more than an experiment during the WNBA offseason as momentum keeps building.
