The thrill of the WNBA Finals has always captivated the fans. But what Maya Moore did back in 2015 was simply breathtaking. Literally! With her picture-perfect ending to the night, the Minnesota Lynx icon brought home a much-needed victory. Of course, the buzzer-beater became one shot engraved in everyone’s memory. But not everyone, especially the Indiana Fever, was a fan of that one, as their legend reveals now.

Yesterday, Minnesota retired the iconic No. 23 jersey with many of their legends in the house, including Seimone Augustus, Lindsay Whalen, Rebekkah Brunson, and Sylvia Fowles, In the press conference, the one and only Maya Moore mentioned her favorite bucket of her career– “The Shot” — that took the world by storm back in 2015.

The 4x WNBA champion said, “You know, you don’t get many opportunities to hit shots like those.” While it may have been the Lynx icon’s favorite shot, Tamika Catchings, who was on the opposing team, of course, did not agree. Laughing at the fact now, she tweeted, “I must say @MooreMaya that was “NOT” my fave memory 🙃😳😢 But… I still love you 😂😂😂 @minnesotalynx.”

Minnesota won the series 3-2, with Moore bringing her third ring with the franchise in just five years. But for the new WNBA followers, what was the environment inside the Gainbridge Fieldhouse like? Well, the legend herself has a picture to paint.

Maya Moore depicts the tale of “The Shot”

With just 1.7 seconds remaining, head coach Cheryl Reeve subbed Whalen, who was hurt at the time. The point guard inbounded a perfect pass to Moore while Fowles distracted the players down low. The Hall of Famer added, “Indiana fans are losing their minds. All you see in that picture is just the fans just speechless as the shot is going up. And then the pump fake one dribble right goes up.”

Talking more about the moment, Maya Moore said, All I remember is it was so eerily quiet after the shot went in. And then Rebekkah hugging me and I’m like, ‘Oh, back to life.’ What happened? Did it count? Even though I knew, I got it off, but we had to take that minute to figure out if it counted, and that was a memory.”

Certainly, it was one of those moments that can make a player the greatest of all time in everyone’s eyes. It is also worth mentioning that she looked exactly like the Chicago Bulls GOAT Michael Jordan. For the NBA legend, it was the buzzer-beater in the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 1989. Hence, it is fair to say that the Jordan Brand found a diamond in the rough.
