Angel Reese didn’t even check into the game against the Los Angeles Sparks when something strange disrupted the event. Instead, while watching from the sideline, she helped in her own way. The Atlanta Dream center’s reaction saw her jumping and pointing, attempting to identify the culprit.

During the game between Reese’s Atlanta Dream and the Sparks on August 20, a bright green s** toy found its way to the floor. It landed right after the Sparks’ Jihyun Park was shooting free throws with 2:59 left in the fourth quarter. A video posted to X by @Ballislife caught Reese’s reaction to the incident up close.

“Up there, up there,” Angel Reese seemingly said to the people at the scorer’s table. Reese immediately pinpointed where the object came from and pointed it out to people closer to her. She noted that the culprit seemed to be wearing a #77 Luka Doncic LA Lakers jersey.

The bright green object was covered by a towel and then kicked out of bounds, with a security staffer securing it afterward.

Though we don’t know much about who threw the object, the WNBA and NBA have already taken matters into their own hands. According to a report from The Athletic released the next day, the individual has been banned from both WNBA and NBA games and affiliated events indefinitely.

According to the report, the league is also looking to impose severe consequences on those who throw these objects during games. This information was conveyed by an anonymous source, who “spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly about the matter.”

As fans may know, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Though a first for the season, if we go back to last season, three incidents mirrored the one that occurred recently.

The most notable of these happened on August 5, 2025, when Kaden Lopez threw a similarly colored object during a game between the Phoenix Mercury and Connecticut Sun. Lopez was later arrested, with the WNBA and Phoenix’s arena both looking to prosecute him for the incident.

“The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans,” a WNBA spokesperson said after the incident back then.

For Angel Reese, though, the moment came during what was perhaps her best performance this season. Against the Sparks, she went nuclear, logging 20 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists while not missing any of her shots.

Reese also logged her 25th double-double of the season, which leads the league, and set a new record for most offensive rebounds in a season, breaking her own record of 172 set in 2024.

Only time will tell if this incident sets off a chain of other such events, but it’s clear that the WNBA isn’t afraid to punish offenders hard, and tonight will likely be no exception.
