Aliyah Boston’s stat line against the Toronto Tempo looked strong on paper. She finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks as the Indiana Fever defeated the Tempo 113-91 on Tuesday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. However, WNBA analyst Rosalina Lee argues Boston’s performance didn’t match her stat line.

Speaking in her postgame recap video, which she shared on her YouTube channel after the game, Lee suggested that Boston’s stat line may have looked better than the performance felt visually. Even though she was not able to put a finger on exactly what felt off yet, she made it clear that Boston’s game did not feel as loud as it usually does.
“Aliyah Boston… I don’t know why her game wasn’t as loud as it usually is,” she said in the video. “Now, she did do a lot of reads. She cleaned up the glass well. She obviously dropped 18 points, but yeah, I don’t know. It was something about her game that really wasn’t putting down a significant impact in my mind visually.”

Aliyah Boston has actually had quite a strong run of performances for the Fever in their last four games, all of which have ended in wins. Specifically, this game was her fourth consecutive double-double this season. And apart from her game-high 11 rebounds, she also acted as a crucial secondary playmaker out of the post with four assists, while shooting an impressively efficient 7-of-10 from the field.
Well, regardless of whether Aliyah Boston‘s performance looked attractive or not, it still contributed a lot to helping the Fever win that game. In fact, Indiana set an all-time franchise record for points scored in a regulation game, shooting a blistering 52.2% from the field. They are now 9-5 this season and will be looking to continue their winning rhythm in their next game against the Atlanta Dream.
Stephanie White Breaks Down Why Fever’s Offense Looks Sharper During Winning Run
The Indiana Fever were falling quite below expectations in the earlier part of the season. They are now on a four-game winning run, and it is finally looking like they are getting into that winning rhythm.
Speaking in the postgame press conference, head coach Stephanie White pointed to a number of factors responsible for this Fever team finally finding its groove. She pointed to the team’s improved pace, better defensive discipline, and sharper ball movement as major reasons behind the recent turnaround.
“I think our pace is better. And our pace is going to be better when we’re better defensively,” she said, responding to a reporter’s question. “When we limit fouls and free throw opportunities. I think the way we’re moving the ball, when we kick it ahead, we get it side to side. We track what our numbers look like when we get paint touches. And when we get ball reversals and when we don’t. And it’s always better when we get a ball reversal. It’s always better when we get a paint touch.”
As White said, fouls specifically have been a major issue for the Fever this season. Before this game, they had been averaging 23.9 fouls per game. But against the Toronto Tempo, they committed only 18 personal fouls, while forcing the expansion team into 27 total fouls.
Also, that late-game collapse trend that they have had trouble with all season was not a feature in this Tempo game. Instead of letting a lead slip away as they have in previous games, the Fever stayed aggressive and outscored the Tempo 28-18 in the final period to close out a blowout victory. They also won the third quarter 32-23.
Hopefully, they can continue on this path. Obviously, their next two games against the Atlanta Dream seem to be a tougher test than this Tempo game looked. However, if they do clear it, that will be sending a strong message that this Fever side is back in its element.
