With 5 minutes and 25 seconds left in the 3rd quarter, the scoreboard showcased the score of the Aces – 43 and the Liberty – 52. Chelsea Gray had the possession of the ball to make a play and secure a basket, she passed the ball to Kelsey Plum inside the paint. Plum tried to score a basket, but little did she know that Jones was watching her.

As Plum released the ball towards the basket, Jones came flying and smacked the ball outside. This exclusive block by Jones sent shockwaves through the crowd. 

However, what happened next left the spectators in awe. After blocking Plum’s shot, Jones did the Dikembe Mutombo Finger wave. This moment made Game 3 of the 2023 Championship Finals truly unforgettable.

Dikembe Mutombo is one of the most respected and biggest names in the NBA. Standing at 7 feet and 2 inches, he had a towering presence on the court. In 1991, Mutombo was picked as the fourth overall draft by the Denver Nuggets. In his NBA career, he played for a total of 18 seasons with six different teams.

He was well known and respected for his defensive prowess and was regarded as the best shot-blocker and defensive player of all time, which even earned him the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award four times. In 2009, Mutombo announced his retirement from the NBA, but his finger wag is still famous in the basketball world.
