WNBA Pushes Back Hard on Latest Union Proposal

The past few weeks made it seem like the WNBA’s CBA negotiations were finally nearing the finish line. Breanna Stewart had suggested talks were moving in the right direction, noting that owners were beginning to fully recognize the value of women athletes and were eager to get a deal done quickly.

True to her words, the players union responded to the WNBA’s latest proposal by lowering its demands, signaling progress in the talks. They are now asking for 25 percent of total revenue in Year 1 of the new CBA, with that figure gradually rising to an average of 27.5 percent over the life of the deal. That represents a noticeable drop from their earlier proposal, which started at 28 percent and averaged 31 percent.

The union also scaled back its demands in two other areas, which you’ll definitely want to check out.

That said, despite the union lowering its demands, the league still doesn’t view them as viable. A WNBA spokesperson released a statement that’s unlikely to sit well with players or the women’s basketball community.

“The Players Association’s latest proposal remains unrealistic and would cause hundreds of millions of dollars of losses for our teams,” the statement read. “We still need to complete two Drafts [a two-team expansion draft and college draft] and free agency before the start of training camp and are running out of time. We believe the WNBA’s proposal would result in a huge win for current players and generations to come.”

Caitlin Clark Reacts to LeBron’s Sacrifice

On the latest episode of the Mind the Game podcast, LeBron James revealed that he gave up two of his favorite indulgences for nearly two months while recovering from sciatica. The injury sidelined him for 14 games this season, and in an effort to speed up his return, he cut out chocolate chip cookies and wine from his diet.

For those unaware, LeBron’s love for chocolate chip cookies is almost unmatched. As his former teammate Dwayne Wade once revealed, “One thing you don’t do is **** with LeBron’s cookies… No, no, no, this is serious. He loves chocolate chip cookies. Chocolate chip cookies and ice cream, he loves. LeBron walks on the plane with a bag of food. One bag is all cookies, and the other bags are what his chef has prepared for him to eat.”

The sacrifice even left women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark speechless. “I’d rather retire than do this. This is why he’s him,” Clark said on Instagram, which pretty much says it all. Wondering why he’d choose retirement over cutting cookies from her diet? Go check this out to find out.
