When you’re a Taylor Swift fan, and your partner isn’t, but they still act like they’re one just because you are? Well, then, you know that’s the real deal. And that’s precisely what Caitlin Clark and her “bae” Connor McCaffery’s relationship is like. When Indiana Fever’s #22 turned 22 on January 22 this year, McCaffery wrote, T Swift year will be the best yet.” As Clark called him out for pretending he liked Swift, McCaffery simply wrote, “I am for you.” And although he may not have made it to Clark’s WNBA debut, he is carrying out his boyfriend duties online.

Connor McCaffery, a former Iowa Hawkeyes player, isn’t one to shy away from showing his love and support for his girlfriend online. However, the latest instance might take the cake. Just a few days after her first pre-season game in an Indiana Fever jersey against the Dallas Wings, Clark posted a carousel of pictures from the matchup. But it was her boyfriend who stole the show in the comments section.

She captioned her post, new job❤️‍🔥💫” The heartthrob she is, Clark received immediate attention on social media. Among the first to react was McCaffery, as always, writing, “Big fan!” In that pre-season game, the 22-year-old scored 21 points, shooting 6-for-15 from the field and 5-of-13 from the three-point range. Yes, Indiana may have lost that game 76-79, but considering her debut run, Clark would’ve undoubtedly made quite a few Fever supporters her fans, too! Speaking of fans, one of their comments sparked a comeback from McCaffery.

They wrote, “We’re married she just doesn’t know it yet ❤️‍” Understandably, Clark’s boyfriend wasn’t too thrilled with the comment. Although he’s a former D1 basketball player and is now a team assistant for the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, he switched his sport and challenged the fan to a boxing match. “Might have to box, bro,” McCaffery replied. The 25-year-old’s take can be regarded as a light-hearted jab (pun intended), but who knows if he’s serious about fighting for his love? After all, the two have been making waves ever since they started dating last year.

Caitlin Clark and Connor McCaffery celebrated their first anniversary in April 2024. While Clark has established herself as one of the best basketball players, McCaffery says his role with the Indiana Pacers is the path to ultimately becoming a coach. He used to play college basketball for the University of Iowa, too, and graduated in 2023, just a year before Clark. The couple avoids sharing much about their personal lives on social media. But, from time to time, they post a few pictures together on Instagram, like on Clark’s birthday in January, when the Taylor Swift back and forth happened.

As the couple celebrated their one-year anniversary in April, they shared pictures with each other on Instagram, writing very similar messages. McCaffery expressed, “One year w the best 🫶🏼 doing life w u has been easy, and you never cease to amaze me.. can’t wait to watch u live out ur dreams in person 🤞🏼 love you ❤️” As for Clark, she acknowledged how she’s shared every good thing that happened over the past year with her “fav person.”

“You make every day better, and I can’t wait for many more adventures together… love you 🤞🏻😇” she wrote. Maybe it is this love and support from McCaffery and vice-versa that keeps them going, excelling in everything they do. However, Clark understands she might have to be away from McCaffery quite often as she looks to make a name for herself in the WNBA.

Ahead of her first pre-season game against the Wings, Caitlin Clark was asked if “bae” would be in attendance. A little surprised, she revealed he wouldn’t, as he had to work. “I’m flying solo. I better get used to it, man. I’m a pro, this is my job,” Clark said while answering reporters’ questions.

Even without McCaffery in attendance, Clark showed up in her debut with 21 points and 3 assists. Their next pre-season game will be against the Atlanta Dream on May 10 in Indiana. Fans will be hoping McCaffery joins the proceedings, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he doesn’t, as the Indiana Pacers are currently embroiled in the NBA Conference Semi-Finals matchup against the New York Knicks.

It is this love that Clark needs. And who knows, the NCAA’s scoring Queen would’ve felt “that’s the closest I’ve come to my heart exploding” (iykyk) after reading her boyfriend’s latest warning to a fan!
