Her being not around indeed affects the sports community. The Phoenix Mercury, Brittney’s former team, paid tribute to her yesterday following the guilty verdict.

The Phoenix Mercury released a statement saying, ‘We are inspired every day by BG?s strength…We will not allow her to be forgotten. We are BG.? Many stories about Brittney Griner have come out since her arrest, spotlighting her career. One such story was when she shocked an entire gym in-game.

Brittney Griner dunks for the first time
When BG’s high school coach was interviewed about her in 2015, he said that she will be the greatest of all time. Sharing his favorite memory of BG on the court, he mentioned the time when she dunked mid-game.

What had happened was that she was at Northbrook for a game when she dunked for the first time. When it happened, “The whole gym just kinda stopped for a sec like, ?My gosh, what did we just see?? Then it hit everybody, and they all stood up and started clapping,” described Debbie Jackson. That was the first time that Britney had dunked and that too it happened in a game.

Later, Coach said that she just ‘felt like it’ and went for it later. The Excitement and the silence amongst the crowd were natural and bound to happen.

Another event that her coach remembers distinctly is her first dunk ever at a state-level girl’s tournament by her. He says that “Both were pretty memorable!”.

With the talks and negotiations still going on, Brittney’s return to the USA doesn’t seem to happen anytime soon, considering the situation.
