The Indiana Fever currently leads the WNBA in PPG, and a big reason for that has been how dangerous they are from beyond the arc. Sophie Cunningham has played a major role in that success by shooting a career-best 43.7% through 25 games. She ranks second in the league in three-point percentage. But apparently, that’s still not enough to earn her a spot in the upcoming All-Star Weekend 3-Point Contest.

The league recently announced its six-player field for Friday night’s event, and once again they have left Cunningham to watch from the sidelines. However, this snub was nothing new for the Fever guard
“Soooo what else is new with everyone?” Cunningham wrote sarcastically on X while responding to a post revealing the contestants’ names.
Sophie Cunningham’s omission has definitely raised eyebrows, especially considering the season she’s putting together. Many expected her to be a lock for the contest, and it’s not hard to see why. Just days ago, she erupted for 20 points while knocking down 6-of-7 three-pointers against the Las Vegas Aces.
Her floor spacing has helped the Fever become one of the WNBA’s most explosive teams, winning 16 games so far this season. Yet her name was nowhere to be found on this year’s six-player field. Instead, the competition will feature:
- Dallas Wings rookie Azzi Fudd,
- Portland Fire forward Bridget Carleton,
- Seattle Storm guard Natisha Hiedeman,
- Atlanta Dream guard Rhyne Howard,
- Toronto Tempo guard Marina Mabrey,
- Golden State Valkyries forward Janelle Salaün.
“I don’t make any of those decisions,” Sophie Cunningham said at her youth basketball camp on Sunday, as per Scott Agness. “I don’t even know who makes those decisions. But I think it’d be a cool opportunity if I get chosen. And so if I’m one of them, awesome. If I’m not, it’s okay.”
But while Cunningham never got the opportunity, another Fever star chose to pass on it.
According to several reports, Caitlin Clark got the invitation to participate in the event again, but again, the 24-year-old declined.
Since she entered the WNBA in 2024, Clark has been one of the event’s most anticipated potential competitors thanks to her seemingly limitless shooting range. Still, despite the continued buzz surrounding her participation each year, the Fever superstar is yet to compete in the shooting contest.
So that means the league’s highest-scoring offense team won’t have a single representative in the All-Star three-point contest. While Clark’s absence came down to personal choice, Sophie Cunningham never got that opportunity. And judging by her response on X, it’s a disappointment she’s grown all too familiar with.
