If there’s one team that absolutely couldn’t afford more injuries, it’s the Chicago Sky. The Windy City franchise lost one of the greatest ever playmakers to play in the league in Courtney Vandersloot due to an ACL injury. But things went from bad to worse in their last outing against the Minnesota Lynx. With Ariel Atkins and Michaela Onyenwere both going down, the mood around the team hit a new low. And now, just days before the All-Star Game, there’s an update about Angel Reese that might have Sky fans holding their breath.
Angel Reese is in the form of her life right now. She is averaging 19.1 points, 14.4 rebounds in her last 8 games. But perhaps the most important thing to look out for is her efficiency. Since time immemorial, Reese has faced constant criticism regarding her efficiency. Well, she has silenced a lot of critics lately by improving her field goal percentage by 15% compared to her first 13 games. She’s now shooting 52.7% from the field. That’s how impressive she’s been.
But those good times might soon come to an end. According to reporter Karli Bell, Reese is all set to miss the next game against the Atlanta Dream due to a leg injury. A huge blow for the Chicago Sky as the franchise also confirmed that Ariel Atkins would miss the game as well.

It remains to be seen how long Angel Reese will be out for. There are reports suggesting that she could miss the All-Star Game, but there’s been no official word yet. The league’s leading rebounder earned her second All-Star selection in as many W seasons. An impressive feat for sure!
This year, she’s averaging 14 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.6 steals per game and has cemented herself as one of the best players in the league. As for the Chicago Sky, with just 7 wins so far this season, they’ll have their hands full against the Atlanta Dream without three key players. Since the Bayou Barbie wasn’t seen getting injured in their last match against the Minnesota Lynx, fans are hoping she comes back soon.
Talking about the last game, there’s one thing worth noting. Since Vandersloot’s injury against the Fever in June, Coach Marsh has reshaped the system, handing Angel Reese a new role as a point forward. While it’s paid off for her individually, wins have been hard to come by for the Sky. Reese committed a few mistakes in the last game, which effectively cost them the game. But to her credit, she acknowledged her mistakes!

Angel Reese acknowledges her mistakes following the Minnesota Lynx game
Despite ending the game with 22 points, 10 rebounds on 9-14 shooting from the field, Angel Reese had turned the ball over 5 times. Since Vandersloot’s injury, she’s been asked to take on more playmaking duties, but that shift hasn’t always worked in the team’s favor. In fact, one of her mispasses from last night even went viral. It’s clear that this part of her game still needs some work. But knowing Reese, she will definitely work on it.
Reese also acknowledged the fact that she has to be better in this new role in the post-game conference. She said, “This is a new role (point forward) for me…that’s no excuse. I just have to watch film and be better…I just gotta get the ball to where it needs to get to faster…I know we’re making the right read…we’ll continue to get better.”

Angel Reese currently leads the league in turnovers, and she’ll be the first to admit that taking better care of the ball needs to be a priority moving forward. But before she can focus on that, she needs to return fully healthy. It remains to be seen when she will make her return, but you can be sure of the fact that the whole basketball community will be eagerly waiting to get an official update on her injury status from the franchise.
