Just earlier this week, head coach Chris Koclanes emphasized the organization’s focus on player well-being, saying, “It’s all about health and safety first and foremost. Especially with these rookies coming off a long college season, you just want to be smart.” And we are seeing the need for that.

It was on July 28 when Myisha Hines-Allen made her return alongside fellow rookie Paige Bueckers—both of whom had been sidelined for a couple of games. With the entire second half of the season and a potential playoff push still lying ahead, Hines-Allen seemed ready to turn things around. But unfortunately, fates had a different plan.

Dallas Wings star suffers injury struggle yet again!

It all unfolded during Friday night’s game when the Dallas Wings took the court against the Indiana Fever. In the fourth quarter, Hines-Allen fell to the floor hard and was clearly in pain for a couple of minutes before the training staff, along with her teammates, surrounded her.

Midway through the 88–78 loss to the Fever, she was seen clutching her right ankle and visibly grimacing. Eventually, she was escorted to the locker room and did not return to action. Before the injury, she logged 18 minutes and tallied 9 points. Though she later returned to the bench, it appeared to be a right ankle injury, as she was seen holding that area tightly.

But, when Coach Chris Koclanes was asked about her condition postgame, he said there was “no update” on the forward. So, to look on the bright side, the fact that she was able to return to the bench is promising. It offers hope that she may have avoided any serious injury.

Still, this isn’t the kind of news the Wings were hoping for—especially with their injury list continuing to grow. Just consider that Maddy Siegrist (knee) was ruled out ahead of Friday’s matchup, while guard Tyasha Harris remains sidelined for the season after undergoing a knee procedure in June.

That said, Hines-Allen’s injury status will be worth closely monitoring in the days to come and updates will be provided once available. But, yes, with a few days until the Wings’ next game, Hines-Allen will have time to rest and recover. And at this stage of the season, Dallas needs her more than ever!

What’s your perspective on:

Can the Dallas Wings overcome their injury woes, or is their playoff dream slipping away?

How can Myisha Hines-Allen be a saviour?

When Hines-Allen signed a one-year deal with the Wings earlier this year—after a standout 2024 season split between the Mystics and Lynx—she made her mindset clear: “It just takes hard work. It takes late nights in the gym … hanging out off the court … getting to know one another … then that translates on the court,” she said during training camp with the newly assembled Wings roster.

But so far, things haven’t translated as expected as the team now stands at 8–21, including the recent loss to Indiana, nearly crushing their hopes of making the playoffs under first-year head coach Chris Koclanes. Still, Hines-Allen had been a game-changer.

And that’s because, heading into Friday night’s matchup, she was averaging 6.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game while shooting an impressive 46.9 percent from the field, all after returning from a left ankle injury just on July 28. So, it’s no surprise Coach Koclanes once referred to her as one of the team’s “quarterbacks on defense.”
