It was Paige’s night—another masterclass from the former UConn star in front of a Connecticut crowd at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The Wings’ decorated rookie was chasing her first win of the season and looked in red-hot form, scoring 15 points in the first half. But the Wings faced another critical issue: an injury to backup guard Tyasha Harris.

With a 14-point lead at halftime, the Wings looked set for a win over the Connecticut Sun. Harris, who logged just over eight minutes in the first half, recorded one rebound and three assists before exiting the game. She did not return after the break and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

According to reports, Tyasha Harris suffered a knee injury, and they will evaluate her on a day-to-day basis. She had previously dealt with a knee issue before the season but returned to full training on May 6. Now in her sixth season, Harris is the ideal backcourt backup for the explosive scoring duo of Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale.

She’s incredible. She’s been great on the sidelines—super high IQ—so you wouldn’t have noticed she hasn’t practiced with us yet because she’s just that smart of a player and can absorb things,” said Wings head coach Latricia Trammell about Tyasha. “She brings a calming presence to everybody. She can fill gaps, play comfortably off the ball, dominate the ball, and get us into our sets. And if things get a little wacky, she can bring everyone together—chill. We’re good.” Last season, Harris averaged a career-high 10.5 points and 3.0 assists across 39 games for the Connecticut Sun.

Injury to Tyasha Harris might force starters to play more minutes. The only good news about the injury report is that the star received attention quickly enough before the injury became serious. This might allow her a possible early return too.

On the court, though, Paige Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale and Dejonai Carrington combined for 56 points to help the side get its first dub. And Bueckers once again reached new highs…

Apart from Tyasha’s injury, Paige Bueckers makes a record-setting return to Mohegan Sun Arena

The UConn Huskies were 15-0 at the Mohegan Sun Arena with Paige Bueckers on the roster. The 23-year-old star might have moved to Dallas for her pro career with the Wings, but the crowd still loves her and gave her a standing ovation as she finished her game with another record-setting stat.

Paige finished the game with 21 points, seven assists, five rebounds, two steals and a block. Now, let us dissect the massive statline. PB now has 73 points and 32 assists through five contests. This makes Bueckers the first player in WNBA history to accumulate at least 60 points and 30 assists through the first five games of a career.

Paige, known for her consistency, delivered an efficient game at the Mohegan Sun Arena. With 8 made FGs in 10 attempts, Paige becomes only the second rookie with 20+ p, 5+ a, and 5= r line while shooting 80% or better from the field since the Mystics’ rookie Temeka Johnson. The impressive record stood for 2 decades, until PB achieved the feat.

While it was a great individual outing for Paige, she will be looking for more wins on the go. Bueckers was seen attending a separate video session with HC before the game against the Connecticut side. And her increased involvement in the recent games highlights the increased role for PB. Indeed, she is now leading the side in points, assists, and steals after just five games. Dealing with Tyasha Harris’s injury, they will now face Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky next on May 29.
