Natasha Mack’s College and Professional Career
Natasha Mack had established herself as a formidable force in women’s basketball. She started playing in high school as part of Lufkin High School’s basketball team. She was then ranked as a four-star prospect and later got recruited by the University of Houston. But even her collegiate journey wasn’t so smooth.
Mack left Houston shortly after, feeling burned out and a lack of fit with the team. She then returned to her high school area, working at a poultry plant and “shearing the wings off of chickens.” It almost felt like she had left basketball, but Randy McKelvey, an assistant coach at Angelina College, recruited her, and she returned to play.

She was then named a junior college All-Star after her first season and even won the NJCAA Player of the Year award after her sophomore year. Not just that, her senior year saw her named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. All this was enough to get her selected in the WNBA.

Mack was picked up by the Sky in the second round of the 2021 draft but was later waived. She then bounced back and forth, signing short stints with the Sky and Lynx. She didn’t play in the WNBA in 2022 or 2023, but in 2024, she was finally inked to a contract with the Mercury, where she made her first start of her career during the team’s opening loss at Las Vegas. Ever since, she’s become the team’s strong rebounder. But is all this enough to secure her a contract for the 2026 season, too?
