A new era in women’s basketball

Unrivaled is co-founded by basketball superstars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. This connection resonates with basketball spectators and athletes alike. Not only this, but the league also offers the highest average salary across women’s sports leagues in basketball history.

Sounds fascinating, right? But there’s more to it. Unrivaled will also showcase 30 top women’s basketball players divided into six teams for a 3×3 matchup, compressed into full-court play. Apart from this, the league will also include some of the WNBA’s reigning all-stars who have already agreed to Unrivaled’s terms.

However, the names of these basketball stars will be formally announced in a couple of months. Moving on, this upcoming women’s basketball league is definitely an out-of-the-box idea. But, do you know whose brainchild Unrivaled is?

Introducing the minds behind Unrivaled

Back in 2014, John Skipper, president of ESPN, and David Levy, president of Turner, signed the paperwork to extend TV deals with TNT and ESPN to 2025. Nearly a decade later, sports media executives decided to team up and sell this new league they uncovered across TV networks and streaming services.

At this point, both rivals turned friends were fully satisfied with their idea that it would serve the fastest-growing sector of the market: women’s sports. Hence, both Skipper and Levy decided to join as investors.

As expected, Unrivaled became a hit and soon attracted a star-studded investor lineup including Warner Bros CEO Ann Sarnoff and top athletes Megan Rapinoe and Steve Nash. Now, the sporting world is eagerly waiting for the expected-to-be historic league Unrivaled. Now the question is: who will be the athletes in the league?
