In WNBA’s 27-year history, there have been 37 dunks in total. All these years, there have been only 8 players who were able to cross that 10-foot barrier. Notably, the first-ever WNBA dunk was made by former WNBA Hall of Famer Lisa Leslie in 2002. In 2005, she registered WNBA’s 2nd dunk while playing against Miami Sol. Then again, in 2006, Michelle Snow dunked at the WNBA All-Star Game.

Further, in 2008, with only a few seconds left of a game, Candace Parker sank a dunk and became the second player to do that in a regular season. Also, Sylvia Fowles joined the group by slamming a dunk in 2009. However, who’s that one WNBA player to make the most dunks in the league?

The Phoenix Mercury’s center Brittney Griner holds the record to make the maximum number of dunks in WNBA history. In 2013, her rookie year, she made the WNBA dunk record with two dunks and equaled it with Candace Parker’s career total dunks. As a result, she became the first player to dunk twice in one game.

In July, Brittney made her first slam of the season. It was her 25th dunk in her 10-year WNBA career. It occurred during the second quarter when the Phoenix Mercury was playing against the Los Angeles Sparks. The game was held at the Footprint Center. Also, it was her 18th dunk in the regular season.

Moreover, she has made 5 dunks in All-Star Games and 2 in the playoffs. Interestingly, Griner has been selected for the 2023 WNBA All-Star Game for the ninth time. Evidently, she has also been selected to represent the US in the Olympics for the third time.

Griner selected for the 2024 Olympics training camp

Recently, Griner has been registered as one of the names in the USA Basketball women’s training camp. The camp will be held in Atlanta. This could very much lead her to be selected for the upcoming Olympics 2024, which is going to be held in Paris.

The training camp is scheduled for the 7th and 12th of November, along with two exhibition matches to be played against the University of Tennessee on the 5th of November and with Duke University a week after that. “If I make that team, that would be the only time I would leave the US soil, and that’s just to represent the USA,” said Griner as reported by insidethegames.biz.

The camp will feature other WNBA players including Aliyah Boston, Jackie Young, Sabrina Ionescu, Betnijah Laney, Angel McCoughtry, and Diana Taurasi, among others to name a few.
