“I’m a mother, No. 1. I take them to dance and gymnastics. After they go to sleep, I do my work. … I love being a mom,” said Sandy Brondello in an interview back in 2016. Almost a decade later, there’s no change in the WNBA head coach’s love for her children. While her social media posts are filled with her coaching journey, it is easy to catch one’s eye on Brondello’s occasional tribute to her little ones.

While WNBA fans might be well accustomed to the New York Liberty head coach, they might not know much about her children. Posts that celebrate how far they, too, have come in their journey from when they had to be taken to dance and gymnastics by their mother. Therefore, no better time to enlighten ourselves than the present.

Does WNBA Coach Sandy Brondello have kids?
Sandy Brondello is not only a championship-winning coach but also a mother of two. She and her husband, longtime partner and fellow coach Olaf Lange, whom she married in 2005, share two children, Brody and Jayda.
As of July 2025, Jayda is making her mark on her high school basketball team, while Brody remains in Brondello’s native Australia, carving his own path on the court. Growing up surrounded by the game has clearly left its influence, though whether either of them will one day follow their mother’s footsteps into the WNBA or NBA remains an open question.

Meet her son Brody Lange and daughter Jayda Lange
Judging from Sandy Brondello’s Instagram posts about her son, Brody was born in February 2007. A few years later, in late May 2010, the family welcomed their daughter, Jayda.
Sandy Brondello’s husband, Olaf Lange, is also a basketball coach, and during the early 2010s, he was responsible for training players in Russia. Brondello would often join him there in the off-season, lending her expertise and coaching alongside him. Because of this, the family had to travel frequently, though fortunately, the couple’s children rarely made a fuss about the constant movement
“With Olaf and I coaching all over the world during the kids’ young life, they have been on many flights both domestically and internationally. Both Brody and Jayda have responded well and, quite frankly, they know no difference!” said Sandy during an interview back in May 2015.
“They just know that this is what mum and dad do and so they are very good with going with the flow and enjoying each and every situation, city and country to the best of their ability. They love meeting new people and absolutely love being around the teams we coach.”
Being a WNBA coach while being a mother, Brondello had to often make adjustments. She used to wake up at the same time as her kids to prepare them breakfast and get them ready for their day. She dropped them off at school and then usually headed to practice. After practice, she would look to spend as much time getting her preparation done so that she could be accessible whenever Brody and Jayda returned.

Brondello, however, doesn’t separate her two profiles. With time, she saw a bond develop between the players and her children. As she recalled, “It truly brings a smile to my face. It shows what kind of people our players are and how kids can change the atmosphere of a team. Brody and Jayda bring a great balance and fun aspect to our team locker room amidst the pressure of performing.” But trips to Russia and befriending the WNBA players weren’t the only ways Brody and Jayda remained part of the basketball world.

Brondello went viral back in 2020 after reports emerged that she and her husband, Olaf Lange, were living separately in the WNBA bubble. However, it was by choice, in order “to maintain a level of professionalism”. After all, back then, Olaf was serving as the assistant coach of the Chicago Sky. The children were temporarily divided up to, as Brondello had Jayda in the hotel with her, and Olaf had Brody with him in a villa with the other Chicago assistants.
Brody and Jayda Lange may still be carving out their own paths, but their journeys are already intertwined with the game that defines their parents. Whether or not they step into professional basketball one day, their story reflects the unique balance of family and sport that has always defined Sandy Brondello’s life.
