Two teammates dating creates a new and potentially uncomfortable dynamic for the entire squad, and any relationship turbulence has the chance to seep out onto the court. “There was some hesitation because anytime you’re dating people in the workplace, it doesn’t matter what profession it is, there’s obviously some things that come with it,” she said. “You don’t want to mess up chemistry. You don’t want to mess up anything that has to do with what’s going on on the court.”

Still, their relationship persevered! Hiedeman ended up proposing to Thomas, and the couple got engaged on September 15, 2021. The nature of their work meant that there were many adjustment periods and delays, but the two are finally getting around to planning their wedding.
