Title celebrations are often meant to bring a sense of happiness and achievement for players, but for Paige Bueckers’ Dallas Wings teammate Arike Ogunbowale, it turned into nothing short of a nightmare. The 4-time WNBA All-Star capped off her inaugural $600K Unrivaled title win with Mist BC earlier this week in Miami, alongside her teammates, with lavish celebrations, but what followed was beyond imagination.
The incident occurred on Thursday night when Ogunbowale was celebrating the Unrivaled win at Club E11EVEN. According to reports, during the party, Ogunbowale got into a scuffle with a man (the club security official). As a result of it, the Dallas Wings guard punched the man, leading to the latter’s collapse on the floor, and an eventual arrest for Ogunbowale.
The footage of the fistfight is on record, according to the police, adding weight to the victim’s statement. An X post shared a brief on Bueckers’ teammate’s arrest.”WNBA All-Star Arike Ogunbowale was arrested Thursday at Club E11EVEN in Miami while celebrating her team’s Unrivaled championship, per @AndySlater,” the post stated.

Notably, Bueckers and Aziaha James were also among the teammates who accompanied Ogunbowale during these title celebrations. But there have been no statements from any of her Mist BC or WNBA teammates for now. The Miami city police have arrested Ogunbowale on charges of battery and a first-degree misdemeanor from 29 Northeast 11 Street. The Dallas Wings guard was later released on a $1000 bond and has returned home.
The Wings have also reacted to Ogunbowale’s arrest via a statement. “The Wings are aware of an incident involving Arike Ogunbowale and are in the process of gathering more information. Further comments will be provided once we have more details,” Wings’ statement read.
Arike Ogunbowale indeed was instrumental in Mist BC’s win against Phantom BC in the finals. The 29-year-old logged in 14.3 minutes off the bench in the game, recording 19 points to complement the team’s talisman, Breanna Stewart, who led the team with 32 points. Mist BC edged past the Phantom BC, eventually 80-74.
But the elation of the title was short-lived, with the aftermath taking most of the spotlight for her.
Unrivaled Reacts to Arike Ogunbowale’s Arrest
Amid the legal tussle, the Unrivaled have also issued a statement in support of Ogunbowale. The 3-on-3 league took a similar stance to the Dallas Wings in responding to the incident, but has stated that its officials are working closely with the Dallas Wings guard.

“The league is aware of an incident involving Arike Ogunbowale and we are in the process of gathering additional information,” Unrivaled’s statement read. “We’re in contact with Arike and her representatives.”
Arike Ogunbowale will next compete in the 2026 WNBA season, following the conclusion of the 3-on-3 league. Her impressive run in the league will be crucial for the rest of the upcoming season, but for now, uncertainty looms high over her participation in the WNBA, too. With the WNBA’s CBA negotiations at a crossroads, the league is approaching a possible delay. Moreover, due to the moratorium, the free agency talks are also at a standstill.
These impacts several players, including Ogunbowale, who are unrestricted free agents going into the season. In any other offseason, we might have an answer by now about which team the Dallas Wings guard will play for in the upcoming season. But in these critical situations, the answer is yet telescopic.
Arike Ogunbowale has been an absolute asset for the Wings in the backcourt over the years. 2 WNBA All-Star Game MVPs and 4 WNBA All-Stars add weight to that. Thus, there are chances that Wings can bank upon her to continue the Ogunbowale-Paige Bueckers duo going.
A lot of it is under the fog for the WNBA’s CBA negotiations. And a definite answer is only obtainable in case a way out between the WNBA and WNBPA is established. But for now, we’ll have to play the waiting game, like the players.
