Just a few days ago, Angel Reese helped Team USA secure their fifth straight FIBA World Cup gold medal. But the job is not done yet, and the 24-year-old made that clear in her return to the WNBA. In the Atlanta Dream’s first game after the World Cup break, Reese helped her team secure a dominant 103-59 win over the Connecticut Sun. And though her historic performance naturally caught plenty of headlines, the WNBA made sure to point some attention toward the sidelines as well.

That is where Reese had a familiar face cheering her on. Cameras caught her boyfriend, Wendell Carter Jr., courtside as he came to support the Dream star in Gateway Center. The Orlando Magic big man even wore an Angel Reese jersey to the game.

“Wendell Carter Jr. of the @OrlandoMagic showing support for Angel courtside tonight in ATL! 🫶,” the league wrote on its X post.

Now, this moment was hardly surprising for those who have followed the relationship between the two athletes. Reese has regularly shown up at Orlando Magic games to support Carter, while Carter has frequently returned the favor by sitting courtside at Atlanta Dream games. He has even been spotted wearing custom gear featuring Reese’s name and number.

So what makes this game different is that Carter got to watch Angel Reese put together a performance that added another chapter to her already record-breaking season.

Reese finished the night with a game-high 30 points and 10 rebounds in just 25 minutes, shooting 11-of-14 from the field. She also added three assists and two blocks as Atlanta cruised past Connecticut, but the efficiency and speed with which she reached those numbers left everyone jumping up from their seats.

According to an X post by Real App, “Angel Reese just had the fewest minutes played in a 30/10 game in WNBA history.”

That means the Dream forward became the first player to record a 30-point, 10-rebound game in the fewest minutes in WNBA history. For a player whose impact has often been defined by what she does around the basket and on the glass, the performance further strengthened her case in the WNBA’s Defensive Player of the Year conversation.

The performance also extended another historic run for Reese. She completed her 30th double-double of the season, pushing her further ahead of the previous single-season WNBA record of 28 set by Alyssa Thomas in 2023.

Yet for Angel Reese, this night was more than just another game. It was a glimpse of what opponents will be in for when playoffs begin.

“I was ready to get back,” Reese said in her conversation with reporters, as per an ESPNW clip on Instagram. “Being back home, being with Atlanta, being with my team. I mean, I enjoy getting a gold medal at USA and enjoying my time there, but this is home. I gotta leave a taste in everybody about what the playoffs are gonna look like, so it was only right for me to come out and set the tone.”

The Dream have already secured a playoff berth as they sit at the fourth position in the WNBA standings with a 27-14 record, but there is still plenty to play for. Atlanta wants to fight for a position near the top of the standings, with the possibility of moving as high as the third seed depending on how the remaining games unfold.

Angel Reese will play a major role in that run. She is currently averaging 16.1 points and a league-leading 12.4 rebounds per game, while also contributing 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals. She also broke the WNBA’s single-game rebounding record on August 25, grabbing 26 boards against the Los Angeles Sparks.

Atlanta has three regular-season games remaining, with the next coming against Angel Reese’s former team, the Chicago Sky, on September 19.
