“So I just came across this post on ESPNW IG… and I found the picture interesting. Is there a shift happening?” This question lingers over a league basking in record-breaking numbers. Where Caitlin Clark set a precedent for visibility in her rookie year, the league has carried it over seamlessly this season. Only this time, there’s a new face adding weight– Paige Bueckers. The Dallas guard’s 44-point performance ushered in more than just a couple of records, and the Warriors forward, Draymond Green, is raising eyebrows at how the WNBA celebrates milestones.
After a record-breaking 2024 season for attendance and viewership, the WNBA recently revealed that the momentum is well up and running. With still a month left in the season, the league hit 2.3+ million in attendance, breaking its all-time record. Last year, the total was at 2,353,735, the highest in the past 22 years. So in celebrating the milestone, the WNBA’s official social media page added Bueckers to the poster.
It left Green to note, “They spoke of all-time attendance and showed Paige, who plays for Dallas, but doesn’t have the top 3 in attendance.” When someone suggested it was because the rookie was coming off a big game, the Warriors star sarcastically added, “If Lexie Hull had 44, they would have used her picture?” That’s where Rachael DeMita is reading between the lines. “This was clearly Draymond’s way of saying, ‘why would you use Paige for this specific news when clearly the Dallas Wings aren’t ramping up attendance ratings?'”

While the WNBA trumpeted a groundbreaking achievement, one couldn’t deny the surge coming in from the Indiana Fever at large. Despite Caitlin Clark being sidelined for more than half the season, the league and the franchise still reaped benefits. While the overall league saw a 21% increase, the Fever alone drew a staggering 577,979 spectators, marking the most by any team in league history. However, that’s not all.
“Something to consider when we’re looking at attendance is that the Indiana Fever, for a lot of their away games, other teams have changed arenas to accommodate the amount of fans that the Indiana Fever brings in, no matter where they are,” she added. Home or away, the Fever’s average has been a league-high 16,446. Moreover, 6 teams, including the Wings, Chicago, and Atlanta, have changed venues to accommodate Stephanie White & Co.

So that’s where Green and DeMita, among others, are left questioning the celebratory post involving Bueckers, whose team has welcomed 329,032 —9th best— this season. “Of course this is record-breaking numbers for the WNBA… you can give most and all of the credit to two teams— the Golden State Valkyries and the Indiana Fever,” DeMita concluded. The new expansion team has brought in nearly half a million people by itself, starting the season with record-breaking 19,000 in attendance.

While Paige Bueckers is a rising face for the league, a player who is seen as the future for the W, this season, the draw has unavoidably been the Fever and the Valkyries. The biggest win though? The league’s surge continues to persist.
Caitlin Clark flaunts her recent off-court achievement
Despite missed her 16th straight game this season, Caitlin Clark commanded spotlight in the latest pregame fit. Ahead of the Seattle Storm game, the Fever guard was dressed in a custom Nike and flaunted her signature CC logo on the belt, zipper, and pendant.

This move came just hours before Clark revealed her official signature logo for the world to see. The logo, in collaboration with Nike, involves two interlocking Cs, creating a smaller inner C detail. While the smaller C represents how her game was built from the inside out, the interlocking reflects her connection with her fans.
While the Indiana Fever star will drop her signature sneaker line by 2026, her merchandise featuring the logo is set to launch on September 1. Her first signature apparel collection includes performance gear and everyday wear, including a navy and gold jersey featuring her logo. Having said that, the complete range will mark a debut by October 1, 2025. She joins Sabrina Ionescu and A’ja Wilson as the third active player with a signature collection.
